19 Crushingly Beautiful Movie Scenes That'll Make Parents Ugly Cry

You're gonna need a lot of Kleenex to get through this post.

We asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us the parenting moment in a movie that gave them all the feels, and the responses were both beautiful and heart-wrenching:

    1. "In Love, Simon when Simon's mom tells him that it's time for him to finally exhale. As a closeted teen who often wonders how my parents will react when I come out, this scene hit really close to home. I sobbed uncontrollably for the rest of the movie."

    2. "In Life is Beautiful when Guido is in the concentration camp with his son and goes to great lengths to make his son believe that the experience is all just a game. I’m crying just thinking about it."

    3. "The scene in Pursuit of Happyness when Will Smith's character takes his son into a public bathroom to sleep. When the janitor starts banging on the door and he cries while desperately holding the door closed with his foot, I'm a mess."

    4. "In Thirteen when everything completely falls apart and Tracy's mom just holds her and kisses the cuts on her wrists while she breaks down. I've always found it so powerful. There is nothing that needs to be said."

    5. "In A Quiet Place when the dad signs 'I have always loved you' before sacrificing himself for his family. Devastated me."

    6. "During Stepmom when Susan Sarandon's character finally makes peace with Julia Roberts' character, saying about her kids, 'I can have their past, and you can have their future.' I can't watch that part without blubbering like a baby.'"

    7. "In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone when Harry receives a hand-knitted sweater from Molly Weasley after Ron told her he wasn't going to receive any presents."

    8. "At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 when Yondu tells Star-Lord, 'He may have been your father, but he wasn't your Daddy.' Even my husband cried."

    9. "In Steel Magnolias when Sally Field's character completely breaks down at her daughters funeral, saying, 'I've always been ready to go first!' I can't even watch that movie anymore, since having a daughter of my own."

    10. "In Interstellar, watching Cooper cry as he sees his kids grow up in the videos they've sent him, and especially when he sees his daughter as an elderly woman."

    11. "I cried my eyes out during Million Dollar Baby when Hillary Swank's character asks Clint Eastwood's character to unplug her breathing machine, and before he does, he explains the meaning of her boxing name, 'Mo Chuisle,' which is 'my darling, my blood.' He truly considered her a daughter, and honoring her wish for him to pull the plug was an extremely tough decision for him."

    12. "In Brave when Merida is in trouble and the bear form of her mother rips free from her chains to save her daughter from Mordu, I lost it!"

    13. "John Q broke my heart, hands down. When he created a whole hospital hostage situation with a gun that WASN'T EVEN LOADED to save his son, my heart burst, and when he was preparing to kill himself to literally give his heart to his son, I cried like a baby."

    14. "In Dumbo when his mother is locked up and singing 'Baby Mine' while rocking him in her trunk. When they pan to all the other mothers with their babies knowing they'd do the very same thing, I die every time."

    15. "In Mr. Holland's Opus when Iris is trying to convince Glenn to enroll their son in a school for the deaf, and he says, 'I don't know what he wants or what he thinks or what he feels. I can't tell him that I love him. I can't tell him who I am. I don't care what it costs or if a stupid doctor says it's wrong. I WANT TO TALK TO MY SON!'"

    16. "When the mom in Titanic tells her children stories in bed while the boat sinks. I can't imagine the strength it would take to remain that calm in those circumstances."

    17. "In Hope Floats when Sandra Bullock's character's daughter resents her for leaving her cheating husband and moving them far away, and the little girl thinks her dad has come to take her with him. Instead, he totally rejects her, speeding away leaving her devastated in the driveway. When her mom calmly walks over and picks her up to comfort her, I get choked up. Because that's what a mom does for her child, even if the child has been awful to her."

    18. "In The Patriot when the smallest daughter, who never speaks, finally does so just when Mel Gibson's character is leaving for war. When she starts yelling, 'Don't go, Papa! I'll say anything, just don't go!' I ugly cry so bad."

    19. "At the end of The Little Mermaid when King Triton says, 'I guess there's just one problem left — how much I'm going to miss her,' then he gives her legs so she can be with Prince Eric. Still gets me every time."
