I don’t understand why tipping is what’s expected of you at restaurants, but in retail jobs you just have to live on what you make. Maybe it’s different in Canada where I live but servers make minimum wage plus all their tips so me working in retail makes just minimum wage, but my friends who work in restaurants makes minimum wage plus are going home with an extra $200-700 in tips. I do tip when I go out, but it makes me frustrated that that’s expected of me when in my retail job we are literally not allowed to take tips even if people offer them to us and we don’t make commission or anything other than minimum wage. Maybe I’m missing something and if so I would love to have an explanation for this, but it’s always confused and frustrated me.
