19 Fucked-Up Murder Cases From Around The World That’ll Freak You Out

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us which non-American murder cases always freak them out. Here are the insane results.

1. Leonarda Cianciulli, Italy

Between 1939 and 1940, Cianciulli murdered and dismembered three of her female neighbors. She made soap and teacakes out of their remains and served the cakes to other neighbors. She died in prison in 1970.


2. Sada Abe, Japan

In May 1936, Sada Abe strangled her lover and cut his genitals off, carrying them around in her purse for THREE DAYS before she was caught. Abe said she killed him because "as long as he lived, he could be embraced by other women. I knew that if I killed him no other woman could ever touch him again."


3. Katherine Knight, Australia

The first Australian woman to be given life imprisonment without parole, Knight stabbed her husband to death in 2000, skinned him, cooked him, and placed his body parts on plates with name place cards next to them to feed to her kids.

4. The Crawford family murders, Australia


Elmer Crawford is believed to have killed his entire family before driving them off a cliff in Victoria in 1970 before disappearing. It's very likely that Crawford murdered his pregnant wife and three children using electrocution before stacking their bodies in the backseat of the car. He still has yet to be found.

6. Marc Dutroux and Michelle Martin, Belgium

From 1995 to 1996, the then-married couple tortured and sexually abused six girls, and murdered four of them. Dutroux is currently serving a life sentence, and Martin was paroled after 13 years in prison.


7. Luka Magnotta, Canada

He recorded himself murdering a man in 2012, and put the video online. In the recording, you can see him stabbing the victim with an ice pick, then chopping him up and eating his body parts. He later mailed some of the man's body parts around the country. He is currently serving a life sentence.



8. Varg Vikernes, Norway

Vikernes was a huge part of the Norwegian black metal scene in the '90s. He's been associated with Satanism and started burning churches in 1992, and a year later he stabbed his former friend 23 times, killing him. He was in prison for the crime for 15 years, and was released in 2009.

9. Carmen, María de Jesús, Luisa, and Delfina González, Mexico


Also known as Las Poquianchis, these were four sisters who, in the 1950s and '60s, murdered at least 91 women. They'd keep their victims as slaves, and forced many to be prostitutes. They also killed the enslaved women's babies if they happened to be pregnant.


10. The Yorkshire Ripper, England


Peter Sutcliffe murdered at least 13 women and tried to kill at least seven more with a hammer in the late '70s. The original investigation was supposedly quite a mess, and as a result, Yorkshire police weren't able to connect many of the cases until after the crimes had been committed. He's in prison and will never be released.


11. The murder of Kevin Hjalmarsson, Sweden

In 1998, 4-year-old Hjalmarsson, known as the neighborhood kid who "always wanted to play," was found dead with wounds suggesting he'd had a stick pressed up to his throat, killing him. At the time, police accused two local boys, but this year, their theories have been disproven. No one knows who Kevin’s true killer is.



12. Luis Alfredo Garavito, Colombia

Garavito was convicted of murdering 189 young boys in the '90s. He'd lure in his victims by wearing disguises, promising them he'd give them money if they just followed him. He was given an 835-year prison sentence.


13. The murder of Kelly Anne Bates, England

Bates was 17 years old when the 49-year-old man she'd been living with sadistically murdered her. In 1996, six months after she'd moved in, he physically tortured her for four weeks until he drowned her in a bathtub.


14. Norman Afzal Simons, South Africa

Also known as the "Station Strangler," killed 22 people, some strangled to death, between 1986 and 1994. Handwritten notes were also found next to some of the victims. He's currently serving a life sentence in prison.



16. Ronald Janssen, Belgium

In 2010, Janssen, a Belgian drawing teacher, confessed to killing three people, including a couple he'd shot on New Year's Day of that year. He's also suspected of killing multiple other young women. He's in prison serving a life sentence.


17. András Pándy, Belgium

Also known as the "diabolical pastor," Pandy killed his first two wives and four of his own kids with pistols and hammers, and dissolved their lifeless bodies in acid. He was sentenced to life in prison in 2002.


18. Claudia Mijangos, Mexico

She stabbed her own three kids in 1989, claiming a demon had possessed her, and local legend also said the house where she committed the murders is haunted. She was given 30 years in prison, a sentence in which she is currently serving.


19. And The Hello Kitty Murder, Hong Kong

In 1999, a nightclub hostess named Fan Man-Yee was kidnapped by three men and tortured for an entire month until she died. It's unclear if her captors or the amount of drugs she was given killed her. She then was decapitated and her skull was shoved into a giant Hello Kitty doll.
