There Are 4 Types Of Introvert — Which One Are You?

<p>Naturally, some of these scenarios would be extra anxiety-inducing during the pandemic. Try to think of how you feel about them in normal times!</p>

Hanging out with co-workers at a bar.

Playing a game at a bar, like pool or a board game.

Staying in a mountain cabin — alone — for two weeks.

Making a phone call to set an appointment.

Chatting with a stranger on public transportation.

Singing karaoke in front of strangers.

Meeting up with a person you met through a dating app for drinks.

Teaching a class or giving a presentation on any topic you're knowledgable about to a room of 50 people or more.

Going to a small holiday party with friends, where you will know everyone at the party.

Having lunch with your co-workers.

This type of introvert is the type that always hears, "I thought you were an extrovert!" from other people, because they tend to have no problem in social settings with friends most of the time. The introversion only really comes out when they have to meet total strangers without the aid of close friends as a buffer. As a result, these Extrasocial Introverts can come across as extroverts as long as they're comfortable in any particular social setting.


Extrasocial Introvert

This type of introvert is — like most traditional introverts — uncomfortable in pure social settings, like chatting in a crowded bar. However, if an activity is present, that can change the introvert's comfort level. For example, if that crowded bar has a pool table or card games, the introvert has a medium through which they can socialize more comfortably.

Activity Introvert

This type of introvert is the type that we usually think of when we hear the word "introvert." They generally like to avoid social settings, and are totally comfortable being completely alone, even for long periods of time. Their home is usually their comfort zone, and they generally enjoy solo activities like reading, playing video games, or doing crafts.

Isolative Introvert

This type of introvert has varying levels of comfort in social settings, and it depends more on the environment than the people. In a new, unfamiliar place, an Environmental Introvert might be uncomfortable even with close friends. But in a familiar setting such as a favorite, often-frequented coffee shop or bar, the introvert might feel totally comfortable around complete strangers.
