8 Movie Villains Who Are Pure Evil, And 8 Who Don't Deserve All The Hate

I'm the first to give kudos to strong businesswomen, but Cruella crosses a line I can never forgive. Stealing darling precious puppies to skin them for fur coats? ARE YOU JOKING? The woman has no heart. She's easily one of the most cold-blooded villains in cinema.

Killmonger is cruelly deserted in Oakland and witnesses the hardships that black folks suffer. Is it any wonder he wants to even the odds? I love his awareness of the ways that colonialism and imperialism still affect people today. T'Challa is a fine character, but Killmonger beats him fair and square in trial by combat, so shouldn't he remain king of Wakanda? As soon as Killmonger takes the throne, he's determined to usher in a new era of black liberation, and that's something I can stand behind. Plus, I mean, he's played by Michael B. Jordan.

President Snow uses his power as the president of Panem to maintain the enslavement of the districts. He threatens to kill Katniss's loved ones, orders Cinna's death, and hijacks Peeta to turn him into a weapon. Plus, his self-important attitude gets on my nerves. He's a snake who deserves his violent demise. Though Coin turns out to be pretty awful too, I still vote for President Snow as the worst character in the movies.

Miranda has worked damn hard to get where she's at in life. We all know it's harder for women to get to the top, yet Miranda does it with skill and style. Yes, she's too harsh sometimes and could do with a bit more compassion. But I didn't appreciate the film portraying Andy ditching Miranda as a triumphant scene. The movie passes up an opportunity to champion teamwork and mutual empowerment between women. It's unsurprising that Miranda pulls through with an excellent job recommendation for Andy because Miranda's a good person.

I hate Professor Umbridge even more than I hate Voldemort. What is her deal?? I get that she's a stickler for rules, but she takes it to the point where she tortures kids in detention. Bewitching quills to etch "I must not tell lies" on their hands is monstrous. Then she becomes instrumental in rounding up Muggle-born witches and wizards! I wish the battle at Hogwarts included Mrs. Weasley dueling with her, too.

As a child, the phantom is displayed in a freak show where he's advertised as the "Devil's child," so it's understandable he's got some issues as an adult. He falls head over heels for Christine, and they perform the greatest duets known to (wo)man. Christine kissing him is EVERYTHING. Even when she chooses Raoul over him, the phantom lets her go so she can be happy. The final scene reveals Raoul visiting Christine's grave where a red rose with her ring lies on the tombstone. Even though he never wins Christine's heart, the phantom still loves her after all these years. Talk about romantic!

Happy to murder anyone in his way, Sauron uses his power to construct entire armies to wage war against the free peoples of Middle Earth. Sauron's horrifying eye spying on everyone is like voyeurism gone wrong and is profoundly disturbing. His influence even twists poor Frodo's mind to the point where I worried our poor hobbit would be lost for good. Thank goodness for Sam, the real MVP!

Arthur tries to bring joy to others by acting as a clown and pursuing comedy. I felt so sorry for him as he struggled to pursue his dreams. When the world keeps shitting on him, he finally snaps. While I don't condone the violence he commits and inspires, his heart is in the right place. Arthur tackles crucial problems like income inequality and lack of access to mental health resources. The powerful ending where he stands on the car surrounded by people in clown masks reveals that Gotham is tired of the system and ready to throw down for a better future.

To see anyone treat kids cruelly is horrific. But to see an EDUCATOR hold such hatred in her heart for children is unfathomable. She chucks a girl across the playground by her pigtails, blames Matilda for her father's car scheme, and locks Matilda in the Chokey. All I can say is thank goodness for Miss Honey!

Everyone seems to forget that Dorothy's house lands directly on the Wicked Witch of the East. When the Wicked Witch of the West appears, she sees the legs of her poor sister sticking out beneath the house. She doesn't even have time to start mourning before her sister's shoes appear on Dorothy's feet! It's only natural that she hates Dorothy. If someone killed my sibling — even accidentally — you can bet I'd hold a grudge too. If we saw the movie from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West, we'd probably all be rooting for her.

The White Witch is a terrifying antagonist. In addition to imposing a never-ending winter (shudder), the White Witch tricks Edmund into betraying his siblings, turns Mr. Tumnus to stone, and revels in murdering Aslan. Thankfully, he comes back to life just in time to pounce on her and eat her dumb face.

Yes, Thor is a sexy beast who swings his hammer damn well, and he's portrayed as the good brother. But Loki is distraught when he finds out his true parentage, and he lashes out because of it. Sure, he's too jealous of Thor, and that pushes him toward some bad decisions. But let's not forget that he comes around and defends Asgard with his brother. Then he risks his LIFE to stab Thanos in the neck — a brave action that results in his death. That's some excellent character development right there.

Bette Middler's acting is excellent in this role, perhaps even too convincing. As a kid, Hocus Pocus was my favorite Halloween movie, but Winifred made me watch with my fingers across my eyes because I couldn't bear to look at her directly. An ancient witch who sucks the souls out of children?? Talk about evil. Plus, she turns Binx into a cat for 300 years after he says that there aren't enough children in the world to make her young and beautiful. The woman has no chill.

Magneto just wants mutants to be free to live their best lives. It's the pesky humans who are fearful of mutants that ruin everything. Magneto might be more radical than sweet Charles Xavier, but that's because he's fed up with being othered. Don't forget he originally discovered his powers at Auschwitz, so he knows what it's like to be discriminated against.

Scar doesn't just kill his Mufasa in a moment of passion. He orchestrates an entire stampede with the intention to kill his brother and his nephew. Thankfully, Simba lives — no thanks to his treacherous uncle. Scar takes over the Pride Lands, tries to make Sarabi his bride, and attempts to kill Simba again at the end. He seems to have no love in his heart for his family, and I just can't understand why he's determined to live a life of loneliness.

Technically Brad Pitt and Edward Norton play different sides of the same person, but Brad's character is known as Tyler throughout the film. Tyler is handsome, charismatic, and spouts random bits of knowledge and philosophy that make him even sexier. Plus, his ultimate goal is to eliminate debt! His ideas make a lot of sense to me. Sure, blowing up the credit card buildings is too far, but he ensures they're empty so no one gets hurt.
