People Are Sharing Movies They Went Into With No Expectations But Ended Up Loving, And It's Everything

Sometimes the less you know, the better.

Look, every once in a while you walk into a movie theater with no preformed opinion on what you're about to see. Maybe you were dragged by a buddy, maybe someone recommended it to you, but you saw no previews for it, etc. Sometimes, the results are disastrous...but SOMETIMES, you get an unexpected gem.

And this week, when Reddit user Barbados-Slam asked, "What movie did you go into with no expectations and ended up really enjoying?" the answers did not disappoint.

Here are just a few of the most ~unexpected~ films:

    1. Batman Begins (2005)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"The previous installment of the series, Batman & Robin, was the only movie I've ever walked out of halfway through, so I went into this new series having seen zero trailers and hearing nothing about it. I just assumed it couldn't possibly be worse than the last one, and was dragged to see it by some friends. It blew me away."

    2. Upgrade (2018)

    Blumhouse Productions

"That sci-fi flick from last year with discount Tom Hardy (Logan Marshall-Green) and a premise similar to Venom. I knew almost nothing about it, only that it was directed by Leigh Whannell. I ended up immensely enjoying it, and Marshall-Green was great."

    3. The Matrix (1999)

    Warner Bros.

"I saw this when it premiered without seeing a single trailer for it. My friend just thought it would be a good movie to see on drugs."

    4. 21 Jump Street (2012)

    Columbia Pictures

"I was not a fan of Jonah Hill or Channing Tatum, but so many of my students loved it that I decided to give it a try. I was definitely not disappointed!"

    5. Galaxy Quest (1999)

    DreamWorks Pictures

"Our kids were little when this came out, and our life was insane. It was one of our first babysitter hires and date nights out. My wife and I simply showed up at the theater with no plan, and saw this. It was the best two hours I'd had in years, and still a favorite of ours just because of the great time it provided us."

    6. Ex Machina (2014)

"I went in assuming it was some fun new movie about robots, but I didn’t realize it was going to be such a mind trip."

    7. The Fifth Element (1997)

    Columbia Pictures

"The original trailers were just some title graphics and the phrase, 'The Fifth Element: It Must Be Found.' All that my friends and I knew going in were: Bruce Willis, science fiction. If anything, we thought it was going to have a more serious tone. We walked out saying, 'WTF did we just see?!' but we all loved it."

    8. John Wick (2014)

    Summit Entertainment

"I got early screening tickets, so there were no reviews out to the public. I expected it to be one of those fun action flicks that I would forget about in a couple of weeks. I didn't expect to see one of the greatest action movies of all time."

    9. Whiplash (2014)

    Sony Pictures Classics

"I really didn’t expect anything going in, and found myself really enjoying it!"

    10. Iron Man (2008)

    Marvel Studios

"I'd never read comic books or been into superhero movies, but last year I was looking to start a new movie series and decided to give Marvel a chance. I watched Iron Man and was instantly hooked. I love the MCU now."

    11. The Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"I was totally not expecting to enjoy the movie as much as I did — it's so good!"

    12. The Lego Movie (2014)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"I thought it was going to be a dumb kids movie, but I actually really enjoyed it."

    13. Logan (2017)

    20th Century Fox

"I thought it was going to be a horrible X-Men movie, but it turned out to be a real emotional gut punch."

    14. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

    Marvel Studios

"I knew nothing about this movie beforehand and hadn't even seen the trailer for it, but there was nothing else to see and my girlfriend thought the raccoon on the poster was cute."

    15. Zootopia (2016)

"I saw it because what I actually wanted to see wasn't playing at the theater, and I was already there. It might be my favorite animated movie now."

    16. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

    Sony Pictures Releasing

"I expected a cheap cash grab, but instead I left thoroughly entertained and awaiting a sequel."

    17. Kingsman (2014)

    20th Century Fox

"I didn’t have any interest in it. My date and I were in line to get tickets to see Jupiter Ascending, but she changed her mind and asked if we could see this instead. It was the best movie I saw that year."

    18. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

    Walt Disney Pictures

"My friends and I went into the first one as a JOKE. We were all blown away."
