The trailer for Harriet, the forthcoming biopic about the life of Harriet Tubman, has finally dropped.
Cynthia Erivo plays the titular character and people are already talking Oscar buzz.
Harriet would go on to free 700 slaves while also leading an armed expedition as a member of the Union Army in the Civil War.
For a lot of people, Harriet Tubman's story on the big screen has been a long time coming.
And the excitement over this highly-awaited movie is building.
The movie trailer has also re-ignited talk of that new $20 bill that was supposed to be printed with her image but has since been delayed.
Erivo told NME earlier this year, “I think that everyone needs to learn about this woman. There's always a fear when you're portraying a woman who means a great deal to a lot of people, and you want to make sure that you do her justice."
Okay, so we know it’s way too early but… Newsweek notes that if Erivo were to win the Oscar for her role as Harriet, she would be joining the ultra-exclusive EGOT club, as she’s already won a Tony, Grammy and an Emmy for The Color Purple on Broadway.
The movie by Focus Features also stars Janelle Monáe and Leslie Odom Jr. It will be released on Nov. 1.
