They would know that nothing is so cruel as the smoldering embers of a hope soon extinguished.

They would understand that even in pleasure there is pain.

And they'd see that we flail, numb, against the prison walls of our own existence.

They would long for sleep to mask the noisy turmoil of waking life.

They would know that laughter is a dying mind's last refuge against a creeping fear.

They'd realize that our best plans are no match for death's tyrannical grip over us all.
11.
And they would know that the greatest joke is our insistence that we matter.

They would know far too much about the abyss.
13.
And they would know that we are but the voiceless playthings of terrible machines.
