akerkhoff commented on People Who Live In Holiday Destinations Are Sharing Their "Damn Tourists" Moments, And They Range From Hysterical To WTF

I guess it goes to show the importance of researching your destination beforehand. I live in Montreal and its common to ask bus drivers questions about the route, native montrealers do it all the time so I assume visitors would too. Helps to know the norms of the place you're visiting…

akerkhoff commented on 15 Things In Job Postings That Seem Normal But Are Actually Red Flags

In the sections describing the company and the environment, its a red flag for me if there isn't anything unique. If a company can't show how it stands out from other companies, I don't want any part of it.

akerkhoff commented on This Is What Happened When A Canadian And An Australian Compared Aspects Of Their Culture

I feel like people forget how often we eat maple syrup (at least in Quebec). sure, maybe you only have it straight out of the can on occasion when you have pancakes or waffles but is everyone forgetting that every other dessert is maple flavored? maple cookies, maple ice cream, maple…

akerkhoff commented on This Is The Hardest "Would You Rather" For Canadians Who Love Food

I think the real question is, where are the all dressed chips? Whether you like them or not, as far as I've seen you can only find those in Canada. Pickle and ketchup chips might be less popular in the states and UK but you can still find them

In QC it's almost 100% schwarma, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a donair place (doesn't mean there aren't any). I'm going to say the Lebanese population is responsible for all the schwarma and I am so very very appreciative

akerkhoff commented on 16 Time-Consuming Recipes That Make For Amazing Home-Cooked Meals

Unless you're just so enticed by the challenge, don't bother making homemade croissants. So much effort for so few croissants, and so much butter too which ain't cheap! Will they be amazing? Yes. Will you ever want to do it again? No. If you're lazy but you still want croissants or…

akerkhoff commented on 19 Things To Know Before You Pick Your Wedding Cake

Last wedding I went to, the bride and groom had a pretty small wedding cake that they cut and served for tradition's sake but more importantly, they had cake pops in chocolate and vanilla set up around the event space. Brilliant idea.

akerkhoff commented on Here's Everything You Need To Know If You're Visiting Montreal For The First Time

Don't splurge on a hotel, get an airbnb outside of downtown and get a weekend or weeklong transit pass, not only will you save SO MUCH money, but you'll also get to explore some of Montreal's lovely neighborhoods (check hochelaga, rosemont, st henri, outremont and petite italie). Also…

akerkhoff commented on The 10 Most Popular Super Bowl Foods (And Where To Order Them Around The Country)

Maybe if you're going to do a superbowl food post, try to make it more centric to SF and KC? Kansas City throws down with bbq and local beer (boulevard, Martin city, mothers, etc.) I'd be curious to see what SF does seeing as it is a culinary powerhouse

akerkhoff commented on 39 Genius Food Charts For Anyone Trying To Eat Healthier

Oat milk is so good! Especially in tea and coffee. It's the only milk I'll ever drink straight (besides like, whole chocolate milk but that's practically melted ice cream). Oat milk is a more ecologically friendly alternative using less water, space, and other resources for production.…
