You may have seen that D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) recently released a statement about Euphoria claiming that the television series glorifies many things, including drug use and addiction.
Zendaya responded to this statment by saying, “Our show is in no way a moral tale to teach people how to live their life or what they should be doing. If anything, the feeling behind Euphoria is to hopefully help people feel a little bit less alone in their experience."
And I can't even understand how D.A.R.E., or anyone, can watch this show and think that drug use is being glorified, when the series regularly shows the struggles and damage of drug addiction. Here are some examples:
.When Gia found Rue unconscious after she overdosed.
.When Rue and her mom fought about Rue doing drugs in the house, and Rue picked up broken glass and threatened her.
.When it was revealed that Cassie's father had gotten addicted to painkillers and heroin and disappeared from her life.
.When Rue told Ali how much of a struggle it is for her to stay sober.
.When Ali told Rue that the longer you do drugs, the worse things will get.
.When Ali told Rue about when he hit his wife while he was using.
.The times Rue's addiction would get worse and she would hurt the people around her.
.When Jules told her therapist how her own mother's addiction and Rue's addiction have impacted her life.
.When Rue went into cardiac arrest after doing a heavy amount of drugs.
.When Rue was so high, it affected her ability to enjoy sex.
.When Rue had a breakdown outside Fez's house because he wouldn't sell her drugs.
.When Rue's addiction had gotten so bad, she had an outburst where she broke Gia's bedroom door and other things around the house.
.When Rue was experiencing withdrawal, so she tried to steal pills and medications from both friends and strangers.
.And when Rue was experiencing severe abdominal pains, diarrhea, nausea, and sweats as symptoms of withdrawal.
