The “mechanical depth” you mentioned has only gotten deeper as time goes on, and that makes all the difference to fighting game fans. If you’re going to try and argue that the experience of playing SFIV is just like playing SFII, with the only difference being better graphics, well… I’m going to seriously question your knowledge of fighting games.
