The U.S. Air Force Has A Plan To Deal With A Real-Life Godzilla Attack

It involves slingshots, segways and George W. Bush.

Godzilla will once again wreak havoc on cinema screens around the world later this month when the latest reboot of the giant monster franchise is released.

As film fans prepare for another dose of monster madness, the Smithsonian Air & Space Magazine decided to find out how the military would react to the mayhem in real life.

The magazine spoke to members of the USAF’s 18th wing at the Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, to discover the U.S. military’s plan to deal with Godzilla.

Asked why the 18th wing was best suited to tackle a threat of monstrous proportions, Master Sergeant Jason Edwards said: “Kadena is the keystone of the Pacific, due to our strategic location – we are able to quickly respond to any threat in the region – to include Godzilla, should he come to Japan – which, I guess is a thing."

Edwards, the standout star of the Smithsonian video, also said an aerial bombardment against the monster was the wrong way to go.

"Well I think Godzilla would be expecting an aerial attack, so to catch him off guard I think we would need 4,000 segways and slingshots," he said.

Asked who he would like to join the mission against Godzilla, Edwards replied: "Well I could go with Chuck Norris, but that would be the obvious one."

"I understand the Power Rangers [are] probably a good choice in this type of scenario... Bruce Lee, the Incredible Hulk – the CG one, not the Lou Ferrigno one, Tom Brokaw and George W. Bush."

The 2014 version of Godzilla, starring Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, will be released in the UK on Thursday and in the U.S. on Friday.
