Is This How Argentina Managed To Beat Holland On Penalties?

Or was Rihanna involved?

Sergio Romero became a national hero on Wednesday after his heroics in a penalty shootout saw Argentina progress to the World Cup final at the expense of the Netherlands.

Romero saved penalties from Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder as Argentina won the shootout 4-2, after the semi-final ended 0-0.

Romero seemed to have done his homework on the Dutch players after footage emerged appearing to show the goalie stuffing a piece of paper down his shorts just before one of the penalties.

It is alleged that, like Jens Lehmann for Germany in 2006, Romero had scribbled down notes on each of the penalty takers.

People have also joked that he may have been looking at a note from Rihanna after the pop star revealed she was a fan of his work on Twitter.

Quite the result.
