A "Back To The Future" Musical Is Coming To London Next Year

It's the news Back to the Future fans probably haven't been waiting for: the classic 1985 film is being turned into a West End musical, due to open in 2015.

Robert Zemeckis, director of the original film, is part of the team bringing Marty McFly, Doc Brown and a specially designed Delorean car to the stage. New music and lyrics are being written by film composer Alan Sylvestri and producer Glen Ballard, who co-wrote and produced Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill.

The time-traveling caper could transfer to Broadway if the logistics work out regarding transporting the Delorean across the Atlantic, the producers say.

Jamie Lloyd, a 33-year-old Briton who has directed at the Old Vic, the National Theatre and on Broadway, will direct.

A new book co-written by Zemeckis will accompany the play.

This is just the latest of several 1980s films that have been turned into musicals.

So far we've had Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The market for theatre based on stories people already know is booming.

We look forward to seeing how the producers plan to recreate this on stage.
