After much speculation, Kanye West was recently announced as one of the Glastonbury headliners.
Some fans were pretty happy about it.
But other people were much less enthusiastic.
Even some minor celebrities mentioned their disappointment.
Shortly after the announcement, festival-goer Neil Lonsdale set up a petition, which started to gain a lot of signatures rather quickly.
I was a little surprised that people have taken it as seriously as they have.I am fully aware that there is plenty of other stuff to keep me amused. Kanye is not to my liking, but then, I'm only one person.
Comments from people who were signing suggests some of them were joking as well.
Or they're just confused, possibly.
Many people condemnded the petition itself as well.
But it was still popular enough that competing petitions were set up.
He shouldn't represent anything. His songs are lyrically appalling. He sings about 'bitches' and 'niggers' ... He totally disrespected Beck at the recent Grammys. His Brits performance was just threatening... Glastonbury needs upbeat major artists. There are a huge number of acts free on that day. Surely the Eavis family didn't have to scrape quite so low?
A tumblr has been set up by a different person called "White People Angry About Kanye," featuring other complaints about the announcement.
Of course I'll keep it. There is so much to see in a festival, that I'll have a great time regardless of whether Kanye headlines. I'm sure we coulda got Fleetwood Mac for the same price. They're still free that weekend, by the way.Dream line-up? - Blur, Libertines, Cure, Oasis, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, Green Day, Springsteen, Jack White, Muse maybe?
