Whether you like it or not folks, tipping is the expected practice here in these United States. The system is what it is, and the fact is, servers get paid a measly $2.83/hour (last time I worked in the biz, at least), and do depend on your tip…oh, and so do the busboys, runners, and bartenders. That means that even if you DO give a 15% tip (which really only cut it back in 1990, people), about 6% of that is required to be tipped out to others, leaving your server with 9% take home…before taxes. Moral of the story is, don’t be an ass…accept the system and play along or eat at home. To your server, 10% is already an outright insult, so what McCoy did (bad service or not) is beyond horrendous. His server likely paid out of his own pocket to wait on him.
