So, New Zealand Has A Government-Appointed Wizard

And his legal name is The Wizard.

So, we all know about New Zealand. It's that little country to the right of Australia that often gets left off maps.

The Lord of the Rings movies are probably the country's biggest claim to fame.

But did you know that NZ has an actual, government-appointed wizard?

(This is his Facebook profile pic.)

In the 1970s, he would dress up, stand on a ladder in Christchurch, and share his views with passers-by.

He was made the official Wizard of New Zealand in 1990, and his duties included "casting out evil spities" and protecting the government.

In 1995, Christchurch held a "Wizard's Conclave" to celebrate 21 years of wizardry. (This is all true.)

He was also invited to Tamworth in Australia to do a rain dance to break a drought. It actually worked.

And the best part is that he legally changed his name to The Wizard.

Sorry, Gandalf. There's a much cooler wizard than you.
