He is living in a world of illusion and extreme arrogance. The people that went to his rally were taken there by free buses organized by the city and the operation of metro lines in Istanbul were extended until 4am so that his supporters could go back home safely. Whereas the protesters that he calls vandals have been using the public transport, they are paying for it, then they have to walk back home at night because transport lines aren’t extended for them, they are collecting after themselves in the protests and defending their civil liberties and rights. Since when defending your rights and freedoms have become lawless? And why is he using tax payers’ money to pay for the transportation of his own supporters? And why is he censoring the media so that they broadcast whatever he pleases?

Brian, certainly no one wants to go back to military days in Turkey. People believe in democracy and freedom. And these protests are not intended to be a Turkish Spring as some media claims. But people are fed up with conservative Islamic values being forced down their throat on a daily basis and “I do whatever I damn please” attitude of the government. People want to be left alone and they don’t want to be told how to live and what values to represent. The increasing bans, restrictions and authoritativeness have brought Turkey into this. And as evident from the protests, there are still huge crowds that can stand up to the government despite the fact that protesters get beaten and teargassed everyday.

Thank you for your good wishes Rachael! I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your visits in the past and I hope that you will do so in the future, too. The aim of the protests are to make sure that we keep our civil liberties and personal freedoms strong so that everybody, both Turkish people and people visiting the country can enjoy their time without being told what to do, what to wear, what to drink, what to think, how to live and etc. And we are very determined to achieve that. Best!

Keep your ignorant comments to yourself. As a Turkish citizen, and someone who took place in the protests today, I assure you every single person there knows exactly what they are protesting. If you bothered to do some reading on the recent issues, you’d know that this story is in the top spot in all international publications and media including The New York Times, The Guardian, Bild(German), CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera and so on. Several governments including The US government and European Union also expressed their concerns over the unbalanced use of power by Turkish police. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International as well have articles on their websites regarding this issue. But of course, it would be a mistake to expect to do some reading from someone who can’t even spell words correctly.  Next time you comment on such an issue, make sure you’ve read at least a few headlines because as you can see, just looking at the pictures isn’t enough. As your profile says, good luck with sunflowers and mud and your cat avatar.
