I couldn't say Gabriela when I was a baby so I'd say Bela or Gabela and Bela stuck. My dad has also always called me "mama" or "mami." My American friends are always confused that my dad is calling me mom. I have to explain that it's a common term of endearment ?

The reason this is faulty is that "Latino" comes from "Latinoamericano." It relates to those who speak Latin-derived languages in the Americas. Those living in Europe of European descent who speak the romance languages are therefore not "Latino."
