11 Kinds Of Lady Gaga Haters

Wherever Gaga goes, whatever she does, anti-Gaga activists wait in the wings. Which is the point of her, really.

Everything Lady Gaga does seems to be as much about getting people to love her as getting people to hate her. Because what kind of mega celebrity would you be if people didn't expend considerable energy hating you for what you wear (or don't), what you say (or tweet), and how you spend your charitable foundation's money? A terrible, boring one with nothing to talk about, that's what. A Jessica Alba WANNABE, and Hollywood has enough celebrities whose biggest strength is wearing chiffon. So here are some categories of Lady Gaga haters who, if anything, at least keep the entertainment world (and Gaga) interesting.

1. Religious Objectors

These women and men arrived at the office of the company promoting Gaga's South African concert at 10:30 Friday morning to protest Gaga's upcoming concert and existence, generally. According to Channel 24, an anti-Gaga contingent from the South African Council of Churches held a peaceful march on November 9 to the department of Arts and Culture in Pretoria to deliver a written request to ban Gaga from the country. Heat South Africa tweeted that the request was signed by chief director of arts and culture, Duduzile Nchoba.

Channel 24 says these people's concern is "the extent of Satanism in South Africa at this time, and that Gaga's visit could lead to an exponential growth in Satanism."

A huge protest of a Lady Gaga concert by Muslims took place over the spring in Jakarta, where Gaga was denied a concert permit.

In this video, you really get a sense of the scope of the protest (it was huge) and the passionate feelings against Gaga and what she represents this community harbors.

The concert, though sold out to 52,000 ticket-holders, was canceled. (Gaga wouldn't tone the show down to appease religious conservatives, but that might not have helped anyway.)

2. Fashion Critics

Gaga received the "fashion icon" award from the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers for America for her extremely bizarre fashion-forward costumes, which she is, exhaustingly, never seen without. She's formed alliances with many designers, like Donatella Versace (here they are pictured together in one of their many normal "hey girl!" moments in Milan on October 1). In the "Edge of Glory" video, Gaga wore some vintage, excessively studded and strappy leather Versace stuff. New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn, one of the world's most influential, wrote that Gaga "looked embalmed in the black Versace harness," and wondered why Versace said she felt honored by Gaga's selection of the label, "unless, of course, she thought she had to say something nice about the superstar."

Horyn and Gaga's "feud" is ongoing, which hopefully gives fashion writers something to talk about in the off-season.

3. Anti-Fur Activists

This scarf with the fox head on it really put PETA over the edge, especially since she once told Ellen "I hate fur, and I don't wear fur." A PETA spokesperson posted a letter to Gaga on the web that read, "By wearing those dumb furs in a heat wave, you're making yourself a target just like the mindless Kim Kardashian." (Remember, Mindless Kim once got flour-bombed on a red carpet by someone who opposed her fur-wearing.)

Gaga responded, "To campaigners, save your flour to make bread for the children who are hungry. And Kim Kardashian is fabulous."

4. Vegetarians

After wearing this outfit — which felt to many like a ridiculous reprise of that America's Next Top Model episode with the meat shoot, though Gaga claimed it was all about standing up for human rights — Gaga told Ellen, "I meant no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian."

Or Cher fans? Because I wonder if they were okay with Gaga stealing attention from Cher's epic reprise of That Outfit with her butchered "dress" and "shoes." But I'm not quite sure if it merits a "Cher Fans" item on this list so, moving on.

5. People Who Like Cake

In case you haven't seen it, this is a new video preview of Gaga's new song "Cake," which is a rap, involves her getting spanked in a bathtub by other women, and is sepia-colored throughout.

Also, this probably makes for enough recent pop songs about cake to put a moratorium on cake-themed songs for at least two years. Though if reality TV producers couldn't figure that out that one Alaska-themed show was enough, this is probably a lost cause, too.

6. Christina Aguilera

Xtina allegedly blamed (and that report is very sketchy, indeed) Gaga for crap sales of her Bionic album.

And according to recent (also very sketchy) reports, Xtina is EXTREMELY jealous of Gaga's new perfume. "Christina can be really low-class and has been saying she wants to kick Gaga’s ass!" a source told Star. "They could easily end up at the same party, especially with the holidays coming up. Things could really get out of hand."

If Xtina should be jealous of Gaga for anything, it ought to be that her hair currently appears to be just one, nice-looking color.

7. People Who Fight the Spread of Eating Disorders

When Gaga let this hashtag about Her Kind not eating loose, a lot of her fans were upset since she had previously gone on in the press about being bulimic. And really, what kind of message is this? She's not a one-woman Fashion Week, she's a mega celeb. The National Eating Disorder Association tweeted back, "Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?"

10. People Who Think They Did It First

On her tour, Madonna does a sampling of "Born This Way" in the middle of "Express Yourself" to show that the songs have the same chord progression or some such nonsense. Whatever, it's just fun to see Madonna perform "Born This Way," so this was nice for both of them, press-wise, and their fans. (Besides if you're going to be "feuding" with people, you want it to be with people who are at least a few steps up from Xtina.)

Gaga, who dressed as weed for Halloween, drew many fans but also haters for making weed one of her Things this year. Staten Island Borough President James P. Molinaro said, "We have to understand there's a tremendous influence with our youth, which I didn't have as a youth. And there's the influence right there. Stop glorifying drug use." Adding, "There's Gaga. Here's this ... I'd call her a slut. This slut is influencing many, many children."

See? This is the kind of thing that only gets her more fans. Which is why, if you're a celebrity, you need a lot of haters to be hugely famous.
