26 Things For Anyone Who Wants To Get Into Strength Training

Whether you go to the gym or like to work out at home.

    1. These push-up bars so you can bang out those push-ups without straining your wrists or elbows! The bars help your grip and distribute your weight evenly — plus, they rotate slightly to engage more muscles as you work.

    2. A vinyl-coated kettlebell for all those strength-training GIFs you look at when you're trying to get inspired. But seriously, you can use this bad boy to train all of your major muscle groups — no dumbbells necessary!

    3. A pair of high-waisted athletic leggings with ~pockets~ because part of feeling good is definitely looking good! And rest assured, these leggings pass the squat test.

    4. Some TRX suspension straps so you can use your own bodyweight to build strength and stability. You've probably seen these in some fancy gyms, but now you can use them anywhere you want!

    5. A five-pack grip strengthener kit for improving your grip strength so that you can lift heavier weights and see more results!

    6. Some core sliders so you can stop wasting paper plates and nail your moving push-ups, single leg squats, and core work.

    7. A pack of three sports bras to give you some support as you kick ass during your workout!

    8. These resistance band loops (three of 'em!) that will stay put around your thighs and add some extra resistance in as you work your lower body. Trust me, your glutes and legs will feel the burn.

    9. A six-in-one ab roller kit to work your core and arms so you can get the abs of your dreams. Ok, but actually, you can use this kit at home or take it with you when you work out!

    10. Some adjustable ankle weights so you can add some extra weight to your strength-training exercises. You can slap 'em on during squats and lunges, or strap 'em to your wrists as you do arm circles.

    11. An app called Aaptiv that's audio-based, so you don't have to crane your neck or carry your phone in your hand to follow along with a video as you work out!

The home screen of Aaptiv, with workout categories to choose from and "programs for you" that you can choose base off of fitness goals, as well as a secondary screen showing a how many calories you've burned each day

    12. This leather lifting belt to help keep your spine stable and in the right position during your powerlifting sesh.

    13. Some workout gloves that will protect your palms (no need for callouses) and fingers by giving you some extra grip and help support your wrists when you're lifting (bc yikes @ tendonitis).

    14. A pull-up bar (with suspension straps) that you can stick in your door frame so you can do pull ups at home, whenever ya want! Plus, unlike some doorway pull-up bars, this bar sits above the doorway — rather than below it — to give you some extra height.

    15. These knee sleeves to give you some support and compression to increase blood flow to your knees — which is especially helpful when you're performing clean and jerks or squats.

    16. An 11-piece resistance band set because they can replace the need for dumbbells so you can get in a good workout at home without needing to make space for a rack.

    17. A set of two bar grips so you can pop these on your dumbbell or barbell while you lift without having to worry about them slipping or spinning 'round.

    18. An interlocking puzzle exercise mat to give your joints and your floor a lil' protection and cushion as you lift. (But if you like to throw or drop heavier weights, you may wanna look for thicker options.)

    19. The Nike Training Club app for more than 200 workouts led by Nike Master Trainers that can be done no matter your fitness level — plus, it's F-R-E-E free.

    20. Two 1-ounce chalk balls that will give you some extra grip without having to carry a plastic bag of chalk around!

    21. A barbell squat pad to protect your neck, shoulders, or hips because you know you could do more reps if the barbell wasn't digging into ya.

    22. Some spring clips that will keep your weight steady as you lift, so you don't have to worry about your plates rolling around or, worse, slipping off your bars.

    23. A high-density foam roller so you can literally work out your tense muscles after training and make sure you're taking the time to really stretch.

    24. This full body portable gym that will replace the need to have a bunch of weights at home. You can change the resistance levels and perform a bunch of different workouts on this thing, targeting upper body, lower body, and total body moves.

The OYO portable gym with three models demonstrating chest and shoulder lunges, chest and back double flexes, and alternating tricep and bicep curls

    25. These weightlifting hooks to help your grip and take some of the stress off your hands as you lift. Just... please don't even think about using these for pull-ups.

    26. And lastly, the bible of bodybuilding, The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding written by Arnold Schwarzenegger himself! He covers new advances in weight training and bodybuilding competitions, has sections on diet and nutrition, talks about sports psychology, how to teat and prevent injuries, and methods of training! It's even got inspo, so you'll feel well informed and motivated (by Arnold Schwarzenegger) as you get into strength training.
