    Disabled Animal's Rights

Should it be legal to euthanize an animal simply because of a non-life threatening deformity?

I recently adopted a pure bred Chihuahua named Ophelia. Normally, she would go for over $1000. Since she was born without a paw, she was worth nothing to her breeder. Instead of adopting Ophelia out to a good home, this particular breeder decided to put her down. A rescue picked her up at the last second and the rest is history.

The real question is, why is it legal to put down a healthy and fully functioning animal but not a child? Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating the euthanasia of children, I am advocating for the rights of those helpless and voiceless animals. Ophelia lives a wonderful life and is no way inhibited by her deformity. She runs with my family's larger dogs and I can barely keep up with her.

I am hoping that I can raise awareness of the animals who do not get rescued, who are put down as puppies simply because they are not profitable. Animals are not material items, there simply to make money for their owners. They are living beings who need love and want to give love right back. Hopefully, someone can take up their cause.
