Falling asleep while driving happens more often than we care to admit. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), each year, 100,000 plus police-reported auto accidents happen as a result of drivers who doze off behind the wheel. Of the reported accidents, more than 1,600 cause mortal victims, and more than 72,000 cause severe injuries. In addition, not everyone reports all sleep-caused accidents, making that number likely to be even much higher.
