Yes, [arsole](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsole) really is a chemical which contains a ring.

[Moronic acid](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moronic_acid). Yup.

And you need to get your mind out of the gutter.

[Cummingtonite](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cummingtonite) is named after Cummington, Massachusetts, where it was first found,

[Dickite](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dickite), named after the chemist Allan Brugh Dick, obviously.

Because the molecule looks a bit like a penguin when it's drawn in 2D.

[Penguinone](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penguinone).

It's a protein found in the saliva of vampire bats, obviously.

It gets its name because it's the "unwanted child", which seems a bit harsh,

[Bastardane](http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/sillymolecules/bastardane.pdf) it is.

Apparently it [causes constipation](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pcsubstance/?term=%22Crapinon%22%5BCompleteSynonym%5D+AND+8520%5BStandardizedCID%5D).

It's a fungicide, technically called pentachloronitrobenzene.

TBH there's less shame in not knowing this stuff than there is in knowing it, so you're fine,

<p>The chemical in question one contains an aromatic ring. An original version of this post said that it contained a benzene ring. This is doubly unfortunate, since "aromatic ring" is much funnier in the context.</p>
