Last Wednesday was the Golden Globes, and while there's been a range of controversies plaguing award seasons over the years (see the Will Smith Slap, #OscarsSoWhite, etc), the GG's were mostly heartwarming in 2023.
A notable moment was when Niecy Nash announced, bursting with pride, that Quinta Brunson had won the award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for her role in Abbott Elementary – a moment of shared joy was expressed between the two stars.
I spoke with Kellee and she shared what influenced the viral tweet, which has now gained over 73,000 likes.
"I always watch awards shows, so as Issa said, 'I am always rooting for everyone Black.' I’ve noticed over the years, as more Black actors and actresses win these awards, how different the body language is when the presenter is also Black." she told BuzzFeed.
"My personal favourite was in 2019, when Angela Bassett and Peter Krause from 9-1-1 presented the award for Lead Actor in A Limited Series or Made for Television Movie. The look of relief on her face when she opened that envelope spoke volumes." Kellee said.
Following this, users began sharing their absolute favourite examples of this shared happiness between Black actors, writers, directors, and beyond – we've handpicked some of the best examples just for you...
