Can You Believably Watch The Big Game Without Revealing You Have No Idea What’s Going On?

That's where the two teams playing are from this year, fyi.

"Tampa Bay" or "Kansas City"

Receiver is the only one from above that's an actual position. The receivers are the people who run out into the field to catch the ball, which is thrown by the quarterback.

Each team gets four tries (or downs) to get the ball 10 yards down the field. If they don't, the other team takes over the ball from that position, so generally teams like to punt it down field on the 3rd down so the other team starts further from the end zone.

"It's not worth risking field position in the first quarter."

"You think they should go for it on fourth down?"

A safety is when the team on defense tackles the player with the ball offense in their own end zone, rewarding the defensive team with 2 points.

"2 more on the board!"

When a team makes a touchdown, they receive 6 points, AND the opportunity to kick the ball over the goalpost for an additional point. "Going for two" refers to when a team, instead of kicking, decides they want to try to get the ball in the end zone again, essentially another touchdown, which, if successful, gives them two additional points, a move that can come in handy in the latter half of a game.

"It's late in the game they need to go for it"

When the ref throws a flag, it means there was a violation of the rules. Most flags thrown happen when a player moves across the line of scrimmage before the quarterback "hikes" the ball (starts the play).

"I guess defense was offsides"

If you talk to anyone who has even a base level of knowledge of football, within seconds they'd figure out you have no idea what you're talking about. Better luck next season, rookie!

You seem to have the basics down, but as soon as the conversation goes beyond "touchdown" and "quarterback," you're pretty much throwing up Hail Marys to try and sound like you know what you're talking about.

You're post-season proven and ready to take on most Big Game conversations. You're certainly wouldn't be starter material on trivia night, but you can handle yourself.

Hey coach, shouldn't you be on the field right now? But seriously, even if you aren't the biggest football expert, your pump fake is excellent, and that's all that matters when watching the Big Game.
