11 Celebs Who Were Photographed Wearing Their Coronavirus Protection Gear All Wrong, And I Just Want To Scream

Don't do this.

Earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended all Americans wear masks in public settings to protect themselves and others during the coronavirus pandemic.

While the CDC's recommendation to wear face masks — or any cloth face covering — will help reduce the spread of the virus, it only works when worn properly. The same goes for wearing gloves.

According to the CDC's website, proper cloth face covering should "fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face [and] be secured with ties or ear loops," among other things:

As for gloves, you may remember the nurse from Michigan who recently went viral for sharing how easily cross contamination occurs when people wear them:

Dr. Mary E. Schmidt, a board-certified infectious disease specialist, told CNBC that gloves can be "a little bit deceptive" because “people get this idea that they’re protected and then use gloves to touch themselves or touch their face."

And yet, that's exactly what I've seen from countless celebrities who've worn masks and gloves out in public lately. Here are 11 celebs who are good examples of what not to do during the pandemic:

1. Simon Cowell

What he's doing wrong: Leaving his chin exposed. According to The New York Times, this is one of the biggest mistakes people make while wearing masks.

2. Cody Simpson

What he's doing wrong: Touching his phone with his gloves, which he just used to touch several other items and a germ-filled shopping cart, and then putting his phone on his face.

3. Blac Chyna

What she's doing wrong: Wearing a loose-fitting face cloth covering, which the CDC advises against.

4. Demi Lovato

What she's doing wrong: Touching her phone with her gloves right after grocery shopping. Remember that term I mentioned earlier? Yup, cross contamination. It's a great way to spread the virus. Unless Demi plans on disinfecting her phone later, it's now contaminated.

5. Harry Styles

What he's doing wrong: Wearing his mask below his nose and mouth, leaving himself and others exposed to the virus if he's asymptomatic.

It's also important to note that after securing your mask/face cloth covering, it is strongly recommended not to touch or remove it for any reason — until you return home to discard or wash it properly, as it might spread pathogens to your face from your hands.

What he's doing wrong: Only covering his mouth, and not his nose. C'mon, bro.

7. Michael Keaton

What he's doing wrong: The 68-year-old is only covering his mouth, but the CDC recommends covering both your nose and mouth to avoid contracting and spreading the virus.

8. Megan Fox

What she's doing wrong: Resting her mask on her chin/under her neck, which the New York Times specifically lists as a common mistake. The point is to have the mask covering your mouth and nose, people.

9. Rich The Kid

What he's doing wrong: Wearing his mask with the cloth touching the inside of his mouth. Seriously, don't do this.

10. Goldie Hawn

What she's doing wrong: Goldie's another celeb who's guilty of leaving herself and others exposed by not covering her nose and mouth.

11. Rob Schneider

What he's doing wrong: Probably the biggest sinner of them all is Rob, who was spotted wearing an N95 mask around his neck. The CDC and government officials have stressed for citizens not to purchase the face-piece respirators, which are commonly used in the medical community.

Many hospitals have been running low on personal protective equipment (PPE) while treating COVID-19 patients, and here, Rob isn't wearing his correctly by using it to cover his nose and mouth in public.
