1. Frank Ocean

2. SZA

3. Kehlani

4. Bryson Tiller

5. Brent Faiyaz

No shade and in no specific order.
Basic, I know but hear me out... Frank Ocean is the greatest R&B artist period. His album, channel ORANGE, kick started his fandom and his second album, Blonde, made fans (including me) wanting more. He stayed consistent with drops about every year, but ever since 2020 he has been real quiet. Media blew up and fans instantly asked, "Where is Frank Ocean?" Some say he is working on music, some say he's living in London and working on a jewelry line. I'm just waiting for the day he comes out of hiatus and drops an album.
SZA is a queen and one of the most popular well known R&B artists. Although SZA does not drop music that often, when she does, she takes the charts. Her new song "Shirt," which went viral as a TikTok challenge in 2020, got leaked to Sound Cloud and instantly took the #1 most streamed song for 7 total days. Her fan base is insanely loyal and she lets them know how much she appreciates them by recording bangers! A queen.
Kehlani has a voice of an angel. She was the first R&B artist that I listened to in 2016. Her style is more rhythmic rather than the classic R&B rap that most men use. Kehlani has 6 albums and over 50 singles and continues to drop new music frequently. Her social media platform is used to tease her new music videos and to show what she has been working on and what's next to come. She produces more music than SZA and other female R&B artists, which increases her fanbase and the loyalty of her fans. We stan Kehlani! Not to mention her TikTok is trending with 4 million followers posting content of her daughter and relationships.
Now this one may be a little controversial. You may be wondering, "What about Summer Walker, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Given."...Trust me if this was a top 10 they would more than likely be on here. But this is a top 5 and it is solely based on my opinion, which brings me to the point that Bryson Tiller's album ANNIVERSARY took the R&B world by storm. I believe this album alone made his name blow up. He has a smooth, raspy, but extremely masculine voice that ropes you in and makes you want to listen for hours. He is another artist that drops new music frequently and that earns him 14,298,841 monthly listeners.
Brent Faiyaz does come in at number 5 however, this is not in order so don't go thinking that he's the last on the list. He gives the same vibes as Frank Ocean, however he releases new music way more frequently. He resonates with his fans by making relatable music that is easy to follow along with and easy to understand. His most recent album, WASTELAND is filled with features such as Tyler, the Creator, Alicia Keys, Drake, and more. These features draw in a whole new audience and grows Brent's monthly listeners to 13,436,474.
