Annelies got him a few years ago when she became an active member of the Dutch Animal Protection Society. "I always bring him when I'm traveling," she told BuzzFeed Canada. "I find it difficult to fall asleep without him!"

Recently, while she was in British Columbia for work, Boris went missing. Annelies "turned [her] room upside down" trying to find him.

The hotel where she stayed asked its housekeeping staff, but there were no leads on the missing stuffed animal. Annelies left for the Netherlands and accepted the fact that he was gone forever.

Two weeks later, Boris showed up in a package at her doorstep with a letter attached from the B.C. hotel...

It reads:

"Dear Dr. Vredeveldt,

I wanted to once again apologize for the delay in finding your stuffed dog. We ensured that he enjoyed Canada Day here at the Empress in Victoria and all the staff enjoyed having him on our country's special day."

😊, Canada.

SORRY — Veranda is in fact part of the hotel. A previous version misidentified the location.
