Shonda Rhimes has stated she didn't know actor Sara Ramirez, who played Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy, was leaving until a few days before the public found out.

It turns out the show had already finished filming with Callie going to New York, but that wasn't actually meant to be her proper send-off.

"I had a different plan going and when Sara came in and said, 'I really need to take this break,' I was lucky that we'd shot the end of the season with her going to New York," Rhimes said.

Somewhere around the world, many Grey's Anatomy fans are having an "aha!" moment because let's be real, Callie's departure should have been so much more badass.
