I've changed careers and currently work in education but in both areas I've gotten the "but you don't act like other black women." Or the "I didn't know black people liked: sci-fi, anime, rock music, etc." The very worst is when other black people call me white or white girl or ask…Â
This is beautifully written and very telling about how contradictory we are about education in America. While we do make sure every kid has access to education, we don't really value it as the people who teach aren't made to feel like valued employees. It's also one of the only professions…Â
The statue of Eric was from his ship that sank at the beginning of the movie. The shipwreck Ariel visits in the movie (where she narrowly escapes from the shark) is a different one.
