This morning, TMZ reported that Justin Bieber has been quietly dealing with Lyme disease — a serious and often chronic disease that can cause symptoms like fatigue, fevers, and severe pain.
Well, Justin just took to his own Instagram and confirmed his Lyme disease diagnosis. He also revealed that he's been dealing with a serious case of chronic mono, "which affected [his] skin, brain function, energy, and overall health."
In a message to his fans, he opened up about his health journey and responded to critics who have said he looked "like shit" or speculated that he was "on meth" over the past few years.
"While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like shit, [is] on meth etc. they failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease," he wrote.
"Not only that but [I] had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my skin, brain function, energy, and overall health."
Bieber noted that it's been a "rough couple years," but that his prognosis is good:
It's been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever NO CAP.
(For anyone out of the loop, "no cap" means "no lie.")
Justin also revealed to his fans that he will soon release a docuseries on YouTube about his experiences with chronic illness.
"These things will be explained further in a docuseries I'm putting on YouTube shortly.. you can learn all that I've been battling and OVERCOMING!!" he wrote.
