Eva Mendes Responded On Instagram To A Fan Who Said Ryan Gosling "Doesn't Help" Raise Their Kids

"I don’t want to involve him or how he parents because I don’t feel comfortable crossing that boundary that I have set for myself."

Yesterday, Eva Mendes posted this selfie on Instagram, calling herself a "tired mama" and explaining that she stayed up late the night before to set up her and Ryan Gosling's daughter's birthday.

A fan then commented, questioning whether Ryan was actually helping raise their two children. The fan wrote that Eva seems like "a [struggling] single mother," and that, based on her Instagram, it looks like Ryan "[left] the hard job to you and he doesn't help you."

Well, Eva just responded to that fan in a lengthy comment — but instead of getting angry, she was surprisingly candid.

"Thanks for your honest comment," she wrote. "So here’s my very honest answer."

Eva explained that she mostly uses her Instagram to connect with other mothers and talk about motherhood, but she doesn't mean to exclude fathers from the conversation:

I love women. I’m a girl's girl. I love connecting to women. That’s mainly why I have this page. So when I say I’m a “tired mama” and want to connect to other “tired mamas,” it’s not about excluding the fathers or other caregivers that do so much. It’s just me connecting to other women but in no way does it de-value what papas do.

And she went on to explain why she doesn't really talk about Ryan's parenting in public.

"And why I don’t talk about Ryan and all the wonderful things he does as a father, is because I keep that part private," she said.

"I don’t want to involve him or how he parents because I don’t feel comfortable crossing that boundary that I have set for myself."

According to Eva, it's simply a matter of privacy — not that Ryan isn't doing his job as a parent:

I feel it’s best that I continue to disclose what I’m comfortable with but not involve him or my kids too much. It’s not about being cagey or weird, it’s just about staying private in a public space.

In a subsequent comment, Eva went on to say that she "really appreciated [the fan's] question."

"I love it when it feels we can really communicate via [social media]," Eva wrote. "Feels good!"

So, there you have it. Ryan's a great dad, and Eva's just not posting about their personal life on Instagram. You can read her full response below:
