19 Behind-The-Scenes Facts About "Captain America: The First Avenger"

    Nope, the shield isn't really made from vibranium!

    It seems as if it was only yesterday when we first met Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger. But really, it was a whole decade ago!

    Currently, Steve's loyal buddies, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, are embarking on the post-Endgame world without the OG Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+.

    Still, we thought it was only proper to pay homage to the movie that started it all. Let's give The First Avenger its due fanfare by going through some fun behind-the-scenes facts!

    1. The very first Captain America comic appears in the film.

    2. The scenes with pre–Super Soldier serum Steve had to be shot at least four times.

    3. Evans' body double, Leander Deeny, also appears as a bartender in the movie!

    4. Captain America: The First Avenger was actually the fifth live-action version of Captain America.

    5. Despite how it looks in the movie, Evans and Sebastian Stan are actually the same height.

    6. Stan originally tried for the role of Captain America.

    7. Ryan Phillippe and John Krasinski were also considered for the part of Captain America.

    8. Krasinski's wife, actor Emily Blunt, was also up for the part of Peggy Carter, but she turned it down because of scheduling conflicts.

    9. Believe it or not, Evans turned down the role of Captain America three times.

    10. Evans didn't even have to audition at all.

    11. Evans was paid $300,000 to portray Cap in Captain America: The First Avenger.

    12. Stanley Tucci, who portrayed Dr. Abraham Erskine, joined the cast because he wanted to work on a German accent.

    13. Laura Haddock, who plays an autograph seeker in The First Avenger, later appears in the MCU as Peter Quill's mother in Guardians of the Galaxy.

    On Twitter, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn joked that Haddock was Peter's grandma in Captain America: The First Avenger.

    14. Stan Lee has a cameo as a general in the movie, but he actually didn't create the Captain America character.

    15. Sebastian Stan watched World War II movies to prep for his role.

    16. Still fairly new to the Hollywood scene, Stan was still figuring out how to pay rent even after the first Captain America movie came out.

    17. Hayley Atwell revealed that her favorite scene with Evans was that swoonworthy kiss.

    18. Captain America really had four different types of shields: metal, fiberglass, rubber, and CG (computer graphic).

    19. And now, here's some behind-the-scenes footage, courtesy of Evans' Twitter: His high school friend Jon, who acted as his "assistant" on set, wasn't very impressed with him.

    When I filmed the first Captain America in 2010, two of my high school buddies, Zach and Jon, were my “assistants”. Zach got a lot of great footage. Jon was unimpressed.
