Proper training can reduce or eliminate separation anxiety. We had a Dalmatian that tore into things when we left him as a puppy. We worked with him and a trainer and before a week was up, he was content to be left because he knew without a doubt that we’d be back.
One source of separation anxiety is to over-act on return, which tells the dog that you were just as anxious as they were or to smother the dog when you are there. That just leaves a bigger hole when you leave.
