Jimmy Kimmel Being Called Out For Making COVID-19 Jokes, And 6 More Things I Didn’t Have On My 2022 Bingo Card

Everything from miraculous surgeries to the fight for Roe v. Wade.

A lot has happened this past week! You've probably seen headlines about Rihanna's pregnancy announcement or Joe Exotic's new prison sentence, but there are a lot of other random, important, and wild trending news stories that you may have missed in the last few days. Here are a few:

    1. Not again...🤦🏽‍♀️ Jimmy Kimmel was called out for making jokes about COVID-19 and comparing the deadly pandemic to Korean boy band BTS.

    2. "If you're not pissed off by this, do you even have a pulse?" An OB-GYN went viral in an eye-opening TikTok where she explained what could happen if Roe v. Wade is overturned by the Supreme Court.

In 2021, US states enacted at least 106 abortion restrictions, causing concern for some, like Dr. Jennifer Lincoln, who believes the landmark Roe v. Wade case could possibly be overturned soon. In a viral TikTok, the OB-GYN broke down five major consequences of overturning the law.

For example, "This will worsen poverty for uterus owners," Dr. Lincoln said. Studies show that people who were denied an abortion and carry an unwanted pregnancy to term are four times more likely to live in poverty.

    3. Spotify is facing the music after continuing to give a platform to anti-vax rhetoric on Joe Rogan's podcast.

    4. "No beds means no f*cking beds." This ICU nurse went viral on TikTok for making it very clear that healthcare workers are struggling to keep up with the high volume of patients coming in to hospitals.

Nurse Alexis Hinkley recently took to TikTok to express her frustrations about people's behavior during the pandemic. She explained that while people believe the survival rate of COVID is high, they fail to understand that the survival rate of many other illnesses and accidents can be low. And that's a problem, because there are NO BEDS for people with those non-COVID traumas.

"No beds for your stroke, no beds for your heart attack, no beds for your car crash, no beds for your sick child," she explained.

    5. Mood: While on the air, a Mexican TV news anchor went on a mega rant about people who don't wear masks and choose not to get vaccinated.

The anchor of Telediario Guadalajara, Leonardo Schwebel, used his platform to passionately scream out what many of us have been thinking: "You damn anti-vaxxers, gaggle of morons. Stop with your bullshit and at least put on a goddamn mask. And stop hitting the breaks for the entire world."

In an interview with Telemundo, he explained that it was important for him to bring the discussion of masks and vaccines to the table.

    6. Whoa!🤯 Doctors partially replaced a woman’s tongue with her thigh muscle after finding a cancerous tumor.

It all started when Cameron Newsom’s dentist noticed white spots on her tongue 12 years ago. After some misdiagnoses, Cameron ended up finding out that she had stage four squamous cell carcinoma. She went through chemotherapy to shrink the tumor and eventually had it removed.

That’s when doctors decided to use part of Cameron’s thigh muscle to replace the missing part of her tongue.

She said people have been so kind to her since her surgery, “Everyone is so just, like, curious and polite and telling me I’m beautiful, and I’m just like, ’Oh my god. I did not expect that.'”

    7. And lastly, an androgynous person was sadly turned away from a lounge "for not dressing his gender," and the discrimination is seriously concerning.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Pako said they were saddened by the whole incident. "I felt absolutely crushed and embarrassed. It was humiliating," they said. "People have a right to live in their truth."
