7 New Book Releases We Loved And Why You Should Read Them

Hello, book lovers! Each week, dozens and dozens of new releases hit the shelves. Below are some of the reads BuzzFeed Books writers and contributors loved the most:

1. Fortune Favors the Dead by Stephen Spotswood

In a gender-bent twist on Holmes and Watson, this detective novel follows Pentecost and Parker, two female detectives making a name for themselves in 1940s New York City. When a rich widow is found murdered in a locked room, they must find the culprit, whether it’s human or — as some suspect — spirit. But as the danger begins to catch up with them, they realize the murderer might be even closer than either of them thought.

5. Love Your Life by Sophie Kinsella

She decides to take a break from dating and attends a writer's retreat in Italy — a place where no real names or personal information is allowed. When a nearby martial arts retreat is canceled, a few participants join the writer's retreat instead, including "Dutch." Ava, known to him as "Aria," and Dutch have a whirlwind love affair. But when the retreat ends and they go back to their respective lives in London, they realize that they come from two completely different worlds, and reality isn't as good as the fantasy.

7. Memorial by Bryan Washington

Benson, a Black daycare teacher, and Mike, a Japanese American chef at a Mexican restaurant, have been living together in Houston for a few years. Their relationship is fine, but not what it once was. Right as the two begin to question where their lives are headed, Mike decides to travel to Osaka to say goodbye to his dying estranged father. He leaves just as his mother is arriving to visit them in Texas, leaving her and Benson in a strange, forced roommate situation that blooms into a meaningful relationship. Benson and Mike's time apart gives them clarity on their future together.
