🔥 Full coverage and conversation on Taylor Swift

Hi! We're Sam and Ryan, and we're huge Swifties. Last year, we ranked Taylor's discography and since then, Taylor has updated and released a lot more music. So we thought it would be fun — and slightly chaotic — to rank her flawless discography together AGAIN.

Note: While they are beautiful songs and represent important moments of Taylor's discography, we have decided this time to exclude "Ronan," 'Marjorie," and "Soon You'll Get Better," as we do not think they should be "ranked" against other songs.

Without further ado, we present all Taylor Swift's songs ranked:

181. "A Perfectly Good Heart"

Favorite lyric: "Maybe I should've seen the signs, should've read the writing on the wall."

180. "Both of Us" (with B.o.B)

Favorite lyric: "Some day I will be strong enough to lift not one but both of us."

Favorite lyric: "So you were never a saint and I've loved in shades of wrong. We learn to live with the pain, mosaic broken hearts. But this love is brave and wild."

15. "Mr. Perfectly Fine" (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault)

"Mr. Perfectly Fine" is teenage Taylor at her best, giving monikers and titular identities for each transgression of a shitty boyfriend. The song may be sung with her signature soft voice but it’s also stamped with that signature teen angst. Never before was a drag so beautiful, so catchy, and so irresistibly perfect.

Favorite lyric: “It’s such a shame. ‘Cause I was Miss ‘Here to stay.’ Now I’m Miss ‘Gonna be alright someday.’ And someday maybe you’ll miss me but by then, you’ll be Mr. ‘Too late.'”

14. "Long Live"

“This is a song that for me is always gonna be about you,” Taylor told a stadium full of 70,000 screaming fans before playing the first few piano keys of “Long Live.” Ever since its 2010 release, the song has served as a monumental example of the unbreakable bond Taylor has with her fans — one that’s rare to find, especially among other artists of her fame. Retrospectively, the song was released on the early side of her career so the lyrics that reflect on crowds in stands and all the magic made have become more and more relevant with time. It’s the kind of song whose memories invoke feelings you’ll absolutely be telling your kids about someday when they “point to the pictures.” It’s essentially a snapshot of Taylor’s earliest glimpse of mega-success and ultimately a fraction of what she would soon achieve.

Favorite lyric: "Hold on to spinning around. Confetti falls to the ground. May these memories break our fall."

13. "Out of the Woods"

12. "Renegade" (with Big Red Machine)

It seems impossible for Taylor Swift to have any type of uncharted territory. Her discography covers the vast spectrum of love, relationships, and life in such a specific, intricate way. Yet with “Renegade,” we witness the newness of Taylor's sound with Big Red Machine and the novelty of the themes she explores. With her classic introspection and hyperawareness, Taylor croons, “Is it insensitive for me to say, ‘Get your shit together, so I can love you?’” before saying, “Is it really your anxiety that stops you from giving me everything? Or do you just not want to?” It’s essentially the thesis of the song: There’s messiness, frustration, and beauty in loving — and being loved by — an imperfect partner.

Favorite lyric: “Is it really your anxiety that stops you from giving me everything? Or do you just not want to?”

11. "Style"

If there was one song from 1989 that summed up the energy of the album as a whole, it would be “Style.” Fusing synth-pop, funk-pop, and pop rock, the Taylor, Max Martin, and Shellback creation reflects on a past relationship in the sleekest, sexiest, and most mysterious way. We won’t say which but we think you can easily draw that conclusion. The entirety of the chorus quickly became one of Taylor’s most memorable pieces of work and since its release has earned its rightful staying power on Taylor’s live setlist.

Favorite lyric: "You got that James Dean daydream look in your eyes. And I got that red lip classic thing that you like."

10. "Getaway Car"

“Getaway Car” has been a fan favorite ever since the 2017 release of Reputation, and for good reason. The track’s studio version is absolutely brilliant and purely electric when performed live. It’s a classic showcase of the magic that happens when Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift work together. “I’m in a getaway car, I left you in the motel bar. Put the money in a bag and I stole the keys. That was the last time you ever saw me,” Taylor sang, making a situation that only she could experience something we could copy and paste to our past, present, and future relationships.

Favorite lyric: "I'm in a getaway car. I left you in a motel bar. Put the money in a bag and I stole the keys. That was the last time you ever saw me."

9. "Champagne Problems"

The storytelling and lyricism of “Champagne Problems” cuts through the listener's heart like a freshly sharpened steak knife. Even a casual Taylor listener knows she loves a turn of phrase, and the way she transformed a simple phrase like champagne problems, which is used to describe trivial problems, into a tragic story of love gone awry is remarkable.

The song culminates with a bridge with the same intensity and heartache as "All Too Well," but this time, it permeates even more maturity, more heartache, and more bite. The line in "All Too Well" that goes, "You call me up again just to break me like a promise," has now become "'She would've made such a lovely bride / 'What a shame she's fucked in the head,' they said." Finding new ways to explore that universal heartache, self-doubt, and that inner monologue of insecurity has always been Taylor's strongest suit. And in "Champagne Problems," every lyric, every line, and every execution of her low register paint that picture beautifully and tragically.

Favorite lyric: "One for the money, two for the show. I never was ready so I watch you go. Sometimes you just don't know the answer, 'til someone's on their knees and asks you. 'She would've made such a lovely bride / 'What a shame she's fucked in the head,' they said."

8. "Blank Space"

7. "Holy Ground" (Taylor's Version)

“Holy Ground” is an up-tempo, drum-pulsating track that features Taylor — in all her New York–inspired early twenties naïveté — looking back on a relationship in true TS fashion, memorializing the relationship as something beautiful but ultimately unsuccessful. Unsurprisingly, when Taylor reminisces on a relationship, the smallest moments — a note with a joke on the door, a brief glance, etc. — become even grander, more poetic, and more important in the scheme of things.

Favorite lyric: "Tonight, I'm gonna dance for all that we've been through, but I don't wanna dance, if I'm not dancing with you."

6. "August"

From the moment Taylor starts singing the lyrics, “Salt air and the rust on your door,” the listener is immediately transported back to those blissful late teenage summers of a carefree, spontaneous romance. Besides its escapism and the way it fits so perfectly into the Folklore storyline, "August" delivers a double bridge. Like the rest of Folklore, the line “Back when we were still changing for the better” sounds so simple yet makes you think about your own adolescence, personal growth, and past. This form of escapism is a prime example of what made Folklore and a few months later Evermore such soothing quarantine albums.

Favorite lyric: "To live for the hope of it all. Cancel plans just in case you'd call and say, 'Meet me behind the mall.'"

5. "Enchanted"

When a TS song is over six minutes, you know shit’s about to go down. And what goes down in "Enchanted" is a romantic, trancelike track about a first-time meet. If normal people say, “Oh, I hope this person is single,” Taylor Swift sings, “Please don’t be in love with someone else, Please don’t have somebody waiting on you.”

Favorite lyric: "Please don't be in love with someone else. Please don't have somebody waiting on you."

4. "Clean"

The cherry on top of the purely pop 1989 is this Imogen Heap collab. Taylor’s never been shy when it comes to using metaphors. She takes common words and phrases and applies them to the interpersonal struggles we all experience. Whether it’s about a relationship, an addiction, or just an internal struggle, “Clean” is an ode to that feeling of self-liberation. “I think I am finally clean,” Taylor sings. Truly one of her best songs — sonically and lyrically. The song represents a pivotal moment for Taylor, as she begins to dabble in more layered vocal arrangements, synth pop sounds, and heavier production — something we’d soon become familiar with on Folklore and Evermore.

Favorite lyric: "You're still all over me like a wine-stained dress I can't wear anymore."

3. "Cruel Summer"

Sadder than any Taylor ballad was the underutilization of this song. This Taylor, St. Vincent, and Jack Antonoff love child was bound to be a sonically lush, beat-heavy masterpiece and that it is. The under-three-minute track is a smooth, catchy, synth-pop song with an undeniably infectious hook. The chorus alone gives this song the potential to be a chart-topping beast, but it’s the bridge that sets it apart from Taylor’s typical pop songs. If you’ve heard it, you know the primal scream she lets out, singing, “I love you, ain’t that the worst thing you’ve ever heard? He looks up grinning like a devil…” before a final bass drop. It’s the authentic, unvarnished emotion that permeates through the Lover album and the reexamination of small moments in life — like a drunken night out — that make Taylor so good at what she does. Perhaps "Cruel Summer" was meant to exist as an underused track, where it will continue to age like the finest of wines.

Favorite lyric: "So cut the headlights, summer's a knife. I'm always waiting for you just to cut to the bone."

2. "Last Kiss"

In "Last Kiss," it's clear Taylor has started to really hone her craft. Between the time stamps of the pivotal moments of a breakup, forever-remembered dates of a heartbreak, and vivid depictions of an intimate last kiss shared with a now-estranged lover, "Last Kiss" makes for a devastating listening experience. The most memorable part of the song is the bridge:

"So I'll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep. And I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe. And I'll keep up with our old friends just to ask them how you are. Hope it's nice where you are."

It preludes the songwriting of "All Too Well." The small-but-important moments of a relationship have now turned to moments of loneliness, confusion, and sadness. Taylor described "Last Kiss" as a letter, and it seems like the author of the six-and-a-half track isn't quite ready to let go of something so impactful on their life — at least, not without reminiscing on all of its beauty.

Favorite lyric: "So I'll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep. And I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe. And I'll keep up with our old friends just to ask them how you are. Hope it's nice where you are."
