David Corenswet And Rachel Brosnahan Have Been Cast As Superman And Lois Lane – Here's What Twitter Had To Say

"rachel brosnahan as lois lane im seated".

James Gunn has named the lead actors for his upcoming DC movie Superman: Legacy. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will fill the roles of Superman and Lois Lane, respectively.

David – who is known for his work on The Politician and Hollywood – takes over from Henry Cavill who memorably played the superhero for nearly a decade. Reportedly also considered for the role were Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney.

Meanwhile, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel beat out the likes of Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor for the role of Lois, Superman's perpetual love interest. The role was previously played by Amy Adams.

James, the writer-director of Superman: Legacy, described the pair in a tweet as "not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people".

The new casting presents a BIG change to the DCEU, and to fans who have become used to seeing Henry and Amy as the iconic figureheads of the Superman films.

Some had their reservations, including the fact that David's casting comes off the back of a slight controversy.

It is already confirmed that the actor David Corenswet he will be the new Superman.

But I will tell you one thing, I will not spend a penny, nor will I watch the Superman Legacy movie.

In October of last year, Henry confirmed he would be returning as Superman in a Man of Steel sequel. However, by December, Henry released a statement saying he would not be moving forward with the role. The actor revealed that a meeting with new DC CEOs, James and Peter, had led to this decision, which he implied was to do with the newly hired execs having "a universe to build".

Rumours soon began circulating that Henry could be replaced by any number of famous actors, including Jacob Elordi, Tom Brittney, Andrew Richardson, Nicholas Hoult, and, of course, David Corenswet.

Rachel's casting has been met with a lot of glee, but some were confused by the choice after it was reported that James Gunn's vision was originally going to focusing on 20-something characters.

To everybody who’s saying Rachel Brosnahan is “too old” to play Lois Lane since she’s three years older than David Corenswet, a) she’s only 32, shut the fuck up and b) Margot Kidder was four years older than Christopher Reeve in the original SUPERMAN so again, shut the fuck up pic.twitter.com/Uxbk2rG1k4

Defenders of Rachel were quick to point out that Lois Lane actor Margot Kidder – who starred in the original Superman films from 1978 to 1987 – was actually four years older than her co-star, Christopher Reeve.

Others have cited David and Rachel's relative lack of fame, but fans of both actors were quick to silence critics.

No David Corenswet isnt a Cavill clone, no Rachel isnt "just some tv actress". He is a Juilliard trained actor and she has won like 4 Emmys and a Golden Globe. Shut up and sit down.

The rest of Twitter seems to be in agreement, however, that David and Rachel's casting will bring an exciting, new energy to the film franchise.

Your new Clark Kent and Superman, people. I think David Corenswet is going to bring a refreshingly modern take steeped in the Superman sensibility. The self-awareness, vulnerability, and hope he could infuse is so compelling. Great pick. #SupermanLegacy pic.twitter.com/rGpevNyM5g

Rachel Brosnahan quite literally has unbelievable chemistry with any human being you put in front of her, so I have no doubt in my mind the Clark Kent and Lois Lane dynamic is about to be truly special in Superman: Legacy with David Corenswet.
