17 Adorable Times Celebs Met Their Idols, And It Was Too Wholesome For Words

Emma Stone was SOBBING when she talked to the Spice Girls. It's sooooo cute!

Meeting your favourite celebrity or a person you idolise can be a transcendental experience, but when you yourself are famous already, it adds a whole new exciting layer to the interaction!

I'm kind of obsessed with celebrities meeting other celebrities they adore, so here are 17 of the best encounters I could think of to warm your heart today!

    1. In 2008, a 19-year-old Alexandra Burke won The X Factor and sang with Queen Bey in the final, which was evidently quite overwhelming for the singer.

On the night, Alexandra described Beyoncé as her "hero", and years later appeared on BBC series The Noughties to recount the experience. "We had an hour to get our stuff together... I'm crying the whole time... and then she starts crying... We literally blagged it, we made it all on the spot."

    2. While filling in for Jimmy Kimmel, Kristen Bell chose to surprise Star Wars superfan Adam Scott with the one and only Mark Hamill! Watch out for his trembling fingers... 😭😭.

It's soooo cute because as Adam is talking about writing Mark a letter and inviting him to his second birthday party, the Star Wars theme interrupts him and Mark emerges. Adam can't hold back the obscenities – it's just a perfect TV moment!

    3. Oscar-winner Emma Stone has talked about her love of The Spice Girls on many occasions, but she almost went to pieces when she was shown a video message from Mel B in an interview with 2DayFMSydney.

When she says "Is Mel B talking to me?", it's just the cutest thing ever! Emma has since met Emma Bunton, which hopefully has healed the trauma of when Graham Norton pranked Emma by pretending she was about to meet all five members of the band on his chat show, but then they weren't there.

Here's that savage Graham Norton clip by the way:

    4. In a skit for Saturday Night Live from 2006, Alec Baldwin was told to expect Paul Simon as a cameo, but Paul McCartney walked in instead, leaving Alec ~literally~ mouth wide open in shock.

As a lifelong Beatles fan, Alec was visibly emotional. Even though they'd met before on SNL, Alec couldn't help but break during the skit when faced with his idol – it's kind of adorable!

    5. I love this moment between Nicki and Lauryn, in which the queen of rap meets her idol and literally worships her from the floor.

Nicki once tweeted about her love of Lauryn: "I fell in love with Lauryn Hill b/c I knew she was the author behind those amazingly profound and articulated songs on the MisEducation".

    6. When they both appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden, Seb could NOT contain his excitement at meeting Sharon Stone in person, even sticking it on her in a BIG way!

The actor told Sharon, "I feel like i've seen you all my life, and here you are in person and you look so great". Then he tried to bite her on the neck. It was a REAL mood.

    7. Having impersonated her on "Snatch Game" during season nine, we were all gassed for Drag Race alumna Shea Coulée when she got to meet Naomi Campbell.

Shea Coulée meeting Naomi Campbell will forever be one of my favourite #dragrace moments of all time! 🫶✨

Of their encounter, Shea told Billboard, "It will never not be everything to me. I mean… I literally left set that day saying, 'Do I just go home now? Does it get any better than that?'"

    8. When he first appeared on The Graham Norton Show, Olly Alexander was visibly over-excited to meet his idol Rihanna, who was also on the show promoting Ocean's Eight.

Olly gushed over all of the ladies of Ocean's Eight – and rightly so – but when asked who he was most excited to meet, said, "I love [them] all, but [Rihanna has] been such an inspiration to me... I love you so much and thank you – I dyed my hair because of you!"

    9. Hollywood's biggest fangirl, Jennifer Lawrence, once crept up on Jeff Bridges during an interview to tell him that she loved him.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE in was in a bit in awe of JEFF BRIDGES when she met him.

Jennifer told the actor she was a huge fan before taking over the interview to ask him a question about his favourite role. Honestly, I'm here for her interruption!

    10. In one of the most bizarre crossovers on this list, movie legend Diane Keaton spoke about her love of Justin Bieber, only to be surprised by him on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Diane talked about being a Belieber, saying "I like that boy... do you think he'd go on a date with me?" The best bit is when she first thinks he's there and yelps (02:48), but it's actually just a picture of him. We love someone being lulled into a false sense of security!

    11. For a long time, Ariana has been open about her love of Jim Carrey. When she met him for the first time in 2014, the singer teared up and then posted a short clip on her Instagram saying "me meeting Jim Carrey 😭😭😭😭😭😭".

    12. Reportedly, Harry Styles is good friends with the legend that is Stevie Nicks. At his Fine Line album launch concert in 2019, he invited Stevie to sing "Landslide" on stage with him, commenting that she'd been a "light" for him.

Indeed, Harry gushed to Vulture about Stevie, saying she's "more than a role model... She is everything you’ve ever wanted in a lady, in a lover, in a friend... Stephanie Nicks, I love you. We all do. And that is true, Stevie."

    13. Self-confessed Friends stan, Charlie Puth, stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show where they discussed his love of the show, the possibility of a reboot, and his adoration of Jen. Cue a blindsided Charlie as Jen walks out!

Though Charlie told Ellen he'd met Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox, he confessed he hadn't met Jen. When she appeared, Charlie can be heard on his mic saying "I'm dying right now", before asking if she was gonna stay during his interview. CYOOOOOOT!!!

    14. Perhaps the most wholesome encounter on this list is between a sixteen-year-old Brandy and music legend Whitney Houston. Brandy almost immediately bursts into tears!

Two years later, they would star together in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Brandy has said of working with Whitney, "She has changed my life forever".

    15. Incredibly, movie icon Julia Roberts once had a total meltdown because Gwen Stefani was behind her on a red carpet.

"I was singing her on the way to work all this morning", Julia told Access Hollywood at the time. In fact, the two have remained friends over the years, which I just love!!

    16. When participating in "Carpool Karaoke" with James Corden, Sam Smith revealed that they were a big fan of Fifth Harmony. Cue James pulling over and Fifth Harmony getting into the back seat!

"I'm obsessed with them, I'm a harmonizer", said Sam. That was famous last words cos suddenly James was in a parking bay and Fifth Harmony were knocking on the car window! The resulting the sextet singing "Work From Home" is pretty fucking awesome.

    17. Lastly, I LIIIIIIIVE for this meeting between Oprah and her biggest fan, Tiffany Haddish!

Tiffany spoke to Ellen about meeting Oprah on the set of Their Eyes Were Watching God as an extra, and subsequently writing to her. Since she never received a reply, Ellen invites Oprah out to explain why, and Tiffany GOES TO PIECES. I honestly cry every time I watch this. Tiffany's reaction is priceless.

    18. Bonus: Here's a clip of the opposite! Kesha crashes Jerry Seinfeld's interview, and proves that sometimes you shouldn't meet your heroes.

From now on treat everyone the way Jerry Seinfeld treated Kesha
