They were protesting an incident last week when a man was lynched for being rumoured to possess beef.

On September 28, 52-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was lynched and killed by a mob in Dadri, near New Delhi, that accused him of consuming and storing beef.

Akhlaq's killing sparked mass outrage and protests around the country.

On October 3, the Solidarity Youth Movement organised a beef-eating protest in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, to make a stand against the murder.

The protesters held banners daring extremists to come and kill them for eating beef.

People on the streets were served the meat and speakers addressed the injustices carried out by extremist elements in the name of religion.

The protest got mixed reactions online, with a number of people supporting the group.

There were also people against the demonstration.
