1. The Jodhpur Boom.

On December 18, 2012, residents of Jodhpur were sent into a panic after a deafening sonic boom was heard over the city. With the nearby army base denying any association with the noise, the source of the incident has remained a mystery.

2. The curious case of Shanti Devi.

Born in 1926 in Delhi, Shanti Devi began recounting details from a supposed past life at the age of four. She claimed that she was actually the reincarnation of a woman from a town situated 145 km away, and said that she had died soon after giving birth to a son. Multiple researchers have corroborated her claims and found them to be uncannily accurate.

In the caves near Bastar in Chattisgarh, archaeologist J.R. Bhagat discovered ancient rock drawings depicting humanoid figures and flying discs. The plot thickens when you consider that legends from villages around the area mention people landing from the sky and kidnapping villagers. Although Bhagat himself has dismissed the similarity to alien beings as coincidence, there has been no conclusive evidence provided either way.

4. The abandoned village of Kuldhara.

Once a prosperous village, the residents of Kuldhara in Jaisalmer abandoned their homes basically overnight about 200 years ago. No one saw them leave and no one knows where they resettled. Though there are many theories behind the mass exodus, the only thing that is known for sure about this heritage site is that no one has dared to lived there since because they think it's cursed.

5. The shrine of Bullet Baba.

In 1991, a biker by the name of Om Banna died while riding near Jodhpur. His motorcycle was towed to a nearby police station but, the very next morning, was found back at the site of the accident. The cops towed it away again – this time with an empty tank and in chains – but it was found back at the site without explanation the next day once more. The site of the accident is now a shrine to Banna's spirit which locals believe helps distressed travellers.

6. The Jatinga bird suicides.

For the past 100 years, the town of Jatinga in Assam has seen thousands of birds inexplicably plunge to their deaths over a small patch of land that measures less than 3 k.m. in area. While many theories have floated around – including high altitudes and fog causing disorientation – scientists are yet to conclusively determine what makes Jatinga such a red zone for birds.

7. The UFO base at Kongka La Pass.

The Kongka La Pass is situated on the Indo-China border, and has become infamous for its multiple sightings of eerie lights and flying objects in the sky. The myth has only been perpetuated by the fact that the area is not physically patrolled by the armies of either side, and is unpopulated enough for a base to exist without detection.

8. The man who's lived without food and water for 70 years.

Prahlad Jani, a staunch devotee of the goddess Amba, has supposedly lived without food or water since 1940. In 2010, scientists observed him 24x7 in a room for 15 days on CCTVs and found that he had no symptoms of starvation or dehydration.

9. The Monkey Man of New Delhi.

Possibly one of India's most well-documented cases of mass hysteria, the "Monkey Man" surfaced in Delhi in 2001. Over the course of a few weeks, he terrorised citizens who claimed to have been scratched and bruised by the being. Though many descriptions surfaced – including an 8-foot-tall creature wearing a helmet – the cops were never able to catch it.

10. The twin village of Kerala.

The tiny hamlet of Kodhini in Kerala is home to 220 sets of twins amongst a population of just 2,000 people. Scientists are yet to figure out why its residents seem to be blessed with this improbable genetic trait.

11. The rust-free iron pillar at Qutb Minar.

The iron pillar of New Delhi is one of India's most famous monuments and has inexplicably remained 99% resistant to corrosion over the past 1,600 years. No one has been able to answer how such chemically advanced materials were manufactured so many centuries ago.
