"TOI" Is Being Called Out For Normalising Dowry By Blaming A Cancelled Wedding On Demonetisation

After a man called off his engagement because the bride's family couldn't meet his dowry demands, The Times Of India chose to criticise demonetisation instead of him.

Earlier today, The Times Of India published a story about a wedding being called off in New Delhi because the bride's family couldn't meet the groom's dowry demands.

Soon after it left the presses, however, the publication started getting called out for placing all the blame on demonetisation, and deflecting attention from the much-condemned practice of dowry.

From Twitter to Reddit, readers have gone all in while criticising TOI for wilfully ignoring and normalising a widespread social evil.

Some have even pointed out that the bride-to-be may actually be better off now as a direct result of demonetisation.

Alternate headline: How demonetisation helped this family dodge a bullet.

And, of course, there have also been jokes made at the publication's expense.

TOI is yet to respond to any of the criticism its facing right now.
