On February 16, The Guardianpublished a recipe for "the perfect vegetable biryani", a controversial dish that any self-respecting non-vegetarian will tell you should not exist.
To their credit, it should be said that the post does begin with an acknowledgment of the fact that biryani without meat is questionable.
Unfortunately, it turns out that Twitter's non-vegetarians are a touchy bunch, and won't stand for the words "vegetable" and "biryani" being uttered together, even with a disclaimer.
Because fair enough.
Some argued that a vegetable biryani is just pulao in disguise.
While other ultra-purists went as far as denouncing chicken biryani as well (because only mutton makes a true biryani).
Of course, some vegetarians did try to defend the publication because all they did was present a recipe.
