This Indian Woman Is Probably Facebook Friends With Someone You Know, And She Doesn't Even Exist

Over the past few days, a series of PSAs have gone viral on Facebook, talking about an account named "Madhu Shah" that has been slowly, but relentlessly, adding other users as friends.

The twist? Madhu Shah doesn't exist, except as a series of Facebook accounts operated under the same name and display picture.

So widespread are these accounts that there's a good chance that you have at least one mutual friend with a fake Madhu Shah right now.

Although most of these accounts provide limited access to non-friends, one of the open ones seems to only post motivational posters and pictures of jewellery.

The reasons behind this creepy phenomenon could be multiple – a phishing scam, a ruse to spread spam links, or just a very elaborate social experiment that no one knows the end game to...

In any case, your job for now is to search for "Madhu Shah" on Facebook, warn any mutual friends you might have, and report all the accounts you find.
