A Lot Of People Are Just Discovering That Britney Spears Owes "Toxic" To A 1981 Bollywood Song

It was a earworm two whole decades before it went international.

If you were listening to music in the early 2000s, chances are that the iconic riff from Britney Spears' "Toxic" was stuck in your head at some point.

While experts may already have known, Twitter user @DeleteItFatty just pointed out that the track's earwormy hook actually came from the 1981 Lata Mangeshkar song "Tere Mere Beech Mein".

Britney Spears' Toxic consisted a replayed sample of hook / riff from a 1981 indian movie's song!

A lot of people are surprised to know that Spears' chart-topper was inspired by a song from the Bollywood film Ek Duuje Ke Liye.

The tweet got hundreds of retweets in just a few hours.

But it makes sense, I guess. One is a profoundly tragic film that ends with two lovers dying, while one is a titillating music video about a raunchy flight attendant.

    Same thing, right?
