Dylan O'Brien Revealed Why He's Not Returning For The "Teen Wolf" Movie And Called The Decision "Difficult"

Dylan O'Brien's comments on the Teen Wolf movie come almost a month after reports of Arden Cho sitting it out due to a huge pay cut.

About a month ago, Paramount+ officially announced the cast for the upcoming Teen Wolf revival movie, which will feature the return of Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed, Holland Roden, Colton Haynes, Shelley Hennig, and more as their iconic characters.

Once the news broke, fans immediatly noticed that three pretty important cast members were not included in the movie's cast: Dylan O'Brien, Arden Cho, and Tyler Hoechlin.

Arden Cho turned down the opportunity to return as Kira Yukimura after she was reportedly offered "half the per-episode salary proposed to her three counterparts." The Deadline report about Arden's choice also pointed out that she is the only "actress of color among the four female series regular cast members." Arden appeared as a series regular in 44 episodes of the original series before she departed at the end of Season 5.

Shortly after news broke of the horrible salary deal Arden was offered, Dylan O'Brien liked a tweet from Phil Yu that read, "Arden said 'nah.'"

In fact, Arden even tweeted back at a fan that mentioned Dylan supporting Arden's choice to turn down the movie, saying, "He's a good one."

And now, while promoting his upcoming film The Outfit, Dylan finally addressed the reason he's not returning as Stiles Stilinski in Teen Wolf: The Movie.

"It was a difficult decision. A lot went into it," Dylan told Variety in a recent interview. "The show couldn't be more dear to me."

"It was the first thing I ever did and so many people there are extremely dear to me. It was something I was trying to make work but it all happened very fast. We didn’t really know that it was happening and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show. We were trying to figure it out."

Despite his undying love for the character of Stiles and his gratitude for all the opportunities he was able to pursue because of Teen Wolf, Dylan felt it was best for himself and the character if he sit out the movie.

He continued, saying, "Ultimately, I just decided [Stiles' story] was left in a really good place for me and I still want to leave it there."

If you need a refresher, Teen Wolf ended with Stiles starting an internship with the FBI, only to find out that his task force was tracking Derek. Eventually, Stiles and Derek returned to Beacon Hills to help Scott and his pack during the series finale.

Dylan ended his conversation about the Teen Wolf movie, saying, "I wish them well and I'm going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it fucking kicks ass, but I'm not going to be in it."

Honestly, as much as I would have loved to see Dylan as Stiles once again, I love that he made the decision that he didn't want the movie to ruin the perfect ending his character got. Now I'm just going to sit here and hope the movie doesn't ruin Stiles and Lydia's relationship...
