nemisis2222 commented on This Couple Shared How They Renegotiated Their Rent And It Is So Smart

I’m going to assume you are not from Aus, apologies if I’m wrong. In the Australian rental market, a landlord is unlikely to be relying on the rental income to feed their kids. (Honestly, if they are, it’s probably a very poor investment decision and they have bigger problems than…

The market conditions are probably pretty different in New York though. Doing this is a tightly held or competitive market, would not be the smartest idea, clearly, but in a falling market where any potential new tenant will be paying less anyway, might be worth a try.

nemisis2222 commented on This Couple Shared How They Renegotiated Their Rent And It Is So Smart

It depends on the market (and the landlord), doing this in a stable or rising rental market would be stupid, but in a falling market might be worth a try. But only if you are a good tenant (pay on time, keep the place in good condition etc) and have a decent relationship with the…

nemisis2222 commented on This Couple Shared How They Renegotiated Their Rent And It Is So Smart

Honestly, In most cases these days Australian rent is calculated and advertised weekly, but gets paid monthly and the monthly amount is what’s on the lease. For example if a rental is advertised for $500 per week, the monthly rent will be about $2172 (calculation methods vary), due…

At least part of it is just more exposure to American accents growing up. Americans just don’t hear as many other accents, and the ones they do hear are often caricatures rather than the real thing. People in the Uk, Australia, NZ, South Africa etc hear US accents every day. Same…

nemisis2222 commented on This Woman Pretended To Be Pregnant To Get Out Of Paying Airline Baggage Fees But Got Caught

Most Australian domestic airlines have always had rules about carry on luggage being checked for weight/size at the gate by flight staff (though they never used to worry that much unless it was huge or the plane was too heavy). These days, particularly with the low cost airlines,…

nemisis2222 commented on These Painfully Accurate Tweets Show The Huge Difference Between Millennial And Boomer Culture

Separating any group of people into a big homogeneous cohort will always have exceptions to the average. No stereotype fits perfectly. Not every boomer was fortunate enough to benefit from the stable job market, union jobs and economic growth, but on average they did. The millennial…

Ellen is 100% a boomer, she was born in 1958. Gen X didn’t start till the mid 60’s.

Great quiz, but a few picture errors. As mentioned by another commenter, that’s not an Australian Copperhead (totally different snake). And that photo of a funnel web looks more like a wolf spider, could maybe be something else, but definitely not the commonly known Sydney Funnel…

nemisis2222 commented on I Asked Atheists How They Find Meaning In A Purposeless Universe

It’s really interesting to me how differently we all process belief. A commenter below mentions that they almost miss believing in God because of the peace and ease it gave them. As someone in similar circumstances (chronically depressed), I’m exactly the opposite. I find peace and…
