35 Summertime Problem-Solving Products You'll Probably Wish You'd Known About Sooner

Fix all sorts of small problems, from feet that won't stop sweating to the thin layer of dirt and mold accumulating on your back patio.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. A pair of polarized sunglasses to seriously reduce glare and protect your eyes from harmful UV rays, whether you're driving, boating, swimming, or just chilling in your backyard.,

The first time I tried polarized glasses (tho they were fancier than these), we were on a beach in Hawaii and my mom let me borrow her pair. It was clear water anyway, but I could suddenly see SO much more detail through to the bottom, because it blocked the sun's glare so effectively. Now I'll only wear polarized!

These have 100% UV protection, which is the most important thing to look for in sunglasses, according to The American Academy of Ophthalmology. Reviewers say each pair comes with a case, a cleaning cloth, and a mini screwdriver for tightening them if needed.

Promising reviews: "I was driving directly into the sun yesterday and they did a damn good job of cutting the glare and enhancing my surroundings." —Kristin G

"I bought these as a cheap and quick replacement to similar looking sunglasses that recently were stolen. I had no hope for these being as great but was extremely happy to be wrong. These are very comfortable and the polarized lenses are wonderful and work quite well. These do not feel cheap, the quality is great! I am all around happier with this purchase than I was with similar sunglasses with an extra $100 on the price tag." —Anastasia Tavenier

Get a pair on Amazon for $10.99+ (15 variations of different frame and lens colors available; some mirrored, some not).

    2. An insect repellant made with picaridin instead of DEET, which means a) you won't smell terrible (it's unscented) and b) you can worry less about SO many bugs, including mosquitos, ticks, biting flies, stable flies, black flies, gnats, chiggers, and sand flies.

A model holding a medium bottle of the repellant

You can get it in both lotion and spray forms; the lotion lasts the longest (up to 14 hours against mosquitos and ticks) but the spray's easy to apply on clothes (and lasts up to 12 hours against mosquitos and ticks). I think it's not technically quite as effective as DEET against mosquitos, but if you hate the smell and texture of the stuff, this is a great alternative.

Promising review: "This is the absolute best bug repellent out there. My four year old–son is severely allergic to mosquito bites. When he does get bit, they swell to the size of a half dollar, get hard and hot and often turn into a staph infection. Every summer he was getting antibiotic prescriptions and I was starting to get seriously worried. We tried so many bug sprays but they just didn't work. My sweet baby is just irresistible. I took him to an allergist and he recommended Sawyer Picaridin. I have been so happy with this bug repellent. Since using this bug spray, we haven't had to deal with a single bug bite and no more antibiotics!!" —Sarah R.

Get it on Amazon: the lotion for $8.70+ and the spray for $8.99+ (both available in multiple sizes, and the spray's available as either a pump or an aerosol).

    3. And a Thermacell zone mosquito repeller, which you simply refill every 12 hours for some quiet, effective, and downright sweet relief when twilight hits and those tiny vampires begin to emerge. You'll actually be able to enjoy summer evenings outside again!

    Cabela's, Thermacell /

It repels the little nasties for up to 110 square feet, and just needs recharged every six hours or so (or you can just leave it plugged in).

Promising review: "Followed the charging directions and started it up 15 minutes before going outside — it worked perfectly. We live near wetlands, and it was SUPER warm and humid (I went out at dusk too). The mosquitoes usually DEVOUR our feet and lower legs when we sit on our patio. With the Thermacell we didn’t get bitten at all. Love this device!" —KellyD

Get it from Cabela's for $39.99, and refill packs for $7.99+.

    4. A set of sexy anti-chafe lace bands because dresses are sooo comfortable to wear when it's hot outside right up until that moment you take a few steps and feel your thighs rub together — and these put a stop to that discomfort, instantly., Amazon

Reviewers do say that if you're between sizes (or even an exact number of inches that corresponds to a size), order down one so they stay!

Promising review: "These are fantastic! I've been using the deodorant style anti-chafing rubs and wanted a longer lasting option. Ding Ding ladies!! This is it! So comfortable I fell asleep in them! No marks, no uncomfortable "digging in."

I did measure my thigh to get an accurate size rather than guessing, but it is definitely true to that measurement. And they do take some fine tuning to make sure that they don't roll, but once you find that spot, they don't move!! I got the lacy ones and they are sexy and soft to the touch with the silicone on the top and bottom. Highly recommended!!!" —A. Spencer

Get them on Amazon for $18.95+ (available in eight colors and two styles).

    5. Or an anti-friction stick so you can apply it anywhere you know you're prone to chafing and blisters before you head out for whatever adventure (or work) your summer has in store.

Four of the deodorant shaped and sized sticks

Promising review: "I bought this in April and now in June, I've come home from a fast-paced 15-minute walk in 84-degree heat and 50% humidity and NOW I can finally write this review. This stuff is amazing. I carry it with me so I can reapply as needed (maybe once or twice over the course of a day) and I can finally wear shorts and dresses and skirts without layering dang bike shorts underneath. I am beyond pleased. Curvy as hell and these thighs are gliding past each other silky smooth. Blessed." —Cecilia

    6. The Guppyfriend Washing Bag, which both protects your swimsuits in the washer — you've gotta get that chlorine and sunscreen out somehow — and catches those tiny plastic microfibers that your suit's synthetic fabric releases anytime it's washed so they don't add to the pollution of the planet's rivers, lakes, and oceans.

    Reformation, REI

Of course it's also great for ANYTHING made from synthetic fabrics, not just swimsuits! It can totally be washed along with a bigger load of laundry; however, it's NOT dryer safe. (Which, your swimsuits aren't either.) And you'll want to remove any loose / visible dirt and animal hair from your clothes before putting stuff in it.

Promising review: "I bought a Guppyfriend a little under a year ago and haven’t looked back. The bag itself is durable and shows no signs of wear, even at the ends of the zipper. The designers of this bag obviously aimed for quality and hit their mark.

You can see the microfibers accumulate after the first half a dozen to dozen washes, which I find comforting (this is actually a solution) and discomforting (how many people have no idea washing their clothes is contributing to pollution in our oceans?). The only critique I have is I wish the bag was bigger so I could fit more clothes per load, and this use less energy and water. But one step at a time, yes?

All in all, an affordable, easily implemented lifestyle change and solution to one of the many ways our everyday lives are slowly eroding the health of the planet. Purchase yours today and be part of the solution!" —Rachel0122

Get one from Reformation, REI, or Patagonia for $34.95.

    7. A set of little plastic caps to prevent your high heels from sinking into grass, gravel, and dirt (hello, outdoor weddings) and make your shoes feel a little more stable on basically any surface.

They come in four different sizes, so you can pick the one that will work best for the shoes you have in mind. The opening of each cap is flexible, which lets you easily get your shoe's heel in there, but it's reinforced at the bottom (and the part that touches the floor has an anti-slip tread texture) for sturdiness. They can also help prevent long dresses from catching on heels, according one reviewer.

Promising review: "This product is PERFECT!!! My heel size is 10mm so I ordered a small and they fit snugly (which is how they are supposed to fit) in the heel. This is perfect for my upcoming engagement photo session outside!" —Angela Moody

Get them on Amazon for $9.99.

    8. A waterproof pouch so you can take your phone swimming, fishing, beaching, tubing, rafting, kayaking, and kiddie pool-ing without worrying about it for one second.

It fits any phone up to 100mm x 170mm (or about 3.9 inches x 6.7 inches). If you decide to get one, definitely check out this review; it's packed with all sorts of good tidbits that will help you get the most out of the case. Oh, and you can totally use the touchscreen through the case — including the camera! People take incredible photos with it.

Promising review: "I purchased this case in July for an upcoming canoe trip with a friend, and as luck would have it, we flipped our canoe. Being the rebel that I am, I chose not to wear my phone around my neck, and so it, my ID, and my debit card ended up at the bottom of the river and I just assumed it would be discovered a thousand years from now and placed in a museum as an ancient artifact. Fast forward to this week. I was contacted via FB by an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office diver and guess what he found? Yup, my phone case with all of the contents intact and dry as a bone! He had to cut the case open, but there was not one single drop of water in it and he ended up purchasing a case for himself because he was just that impressed!" —Julie McDonald

Get it from Amazon for $5.99+ (14 colors available).

    9. Some high-fidelity, nearly-invisible earplugs designed to cut down on the decibels during all your favorite concerts so your hearing stays protected without completely muffling the music's clarity and sound quality.,

Reviewers say they also help people with autism, PTSD, and sensory overload be more comfortable in loud environments! Supposedly they work because of special sound-cutting filters; when you order a set they come with three size options for comfort. Plus they're reusable and hand-washable.

Promising review: "I am a hobbyist musician (drummer and guitarist) and am around loud music quite a bit. I also go to a few concerts. I tried these out at a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. I was very pleased with the results. They allowed me to hear the music just fine while blocking out a lot of the ear-splitting volume and unwanted overtones within the arena. I've tried similar ear plugs in the past and always felt like they were blocking out too much of the sounds I wanted to hear. Wish I had started using these years ago. If you are a performing musician or a regular concert-goer interested in preserving your hearing, I highly recommend giving these babies a try. I don't think you will find a better value for an as effective product." —Fudge13

Get them on Amazon for $23.98.

    10. A dip and sauce holder that clips to your car vents so you can to enjoy your fries exactly the way you like them on all your summer road trips, even if you're the one stuck driving.

Get it from 3D Printed By Brian on Etsy for $5.20+.

    11. A chemical-free standing weeder because the weeds like the summer sunshine as much as any of us, and you shouldn't have to bend down to pull up those pesky rogue dandelions.

Unless you want to harvest and eat the dandelion greens, I guess. Or like getting your hands dirty, which is totally acceptable. Made with a bamboo handle and powder-coated steel, it uses a simple lever system to made weeding easy.

Promising review: "Oh my god, I friggin' love this tool. I bought this on a whim given we bought our first house and know nothing about caring for a yard. Boy has it come in handy. Our new house had a ton of weeds in the front yard and this tool helped me get most of them out in no time. In fact, the process of yanking out the weed was strangely satisfying! I don't think anyone can say that weeding is fun but this tool made it as close to fun as you can get, especially when you see a long root along with the weed you pulled." —JG

Get it on Amazon for $39.99.

    12. A sunburn lotion that may help prevent that dreaded peel thanks to the power combo of cooling aloe and hydrating coconut oil.

A reviewer's before: with a sunburned back and after: with the sunburn greatly faded, their back looking tan

As someone with more experience with sunburns than I'd like, I've found the key to reducing peeling is to pick a lotion you like enough that you don't mind reapplying it twice a day (including after showers).

Promising review: "Best product ever for sunburns! No peeling or itching. Simply amazing! The photos are four days apart." —Carrie

Get it from Amazon for $7.69.

    13. A bottle of the cult-favorite Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen designed specifically for your face, because the best way to actually solve that sunburn problem is prevention, by finding a product that you like enough to use every single day. Might as well opt for one that's basically weightless, completely clear, and makeup-friendly.

buzzfeed editor holding the 1.7oz bottle with dab of translucent sunscreen captioned
    Natalie Brown / BuzzFeed

I've been using this sunscreen at least once daily since my mom gifted it to me Christmas 2020, and have every intention to keep using it for years. A dime-size amount covers my entire face, because it's translucent it leaves absolutely no white cast, and 10 minutes after putting it on, my face just feels like I applied a little bit of a nice moisturizer or makeup primer, not anything that's grease-central, like sunscreen usually is. After several years of stubbornly trying (and failing) to find a decent, oily-skin-friendly, non-greasy drugstore option, I've caved to this pricier kind because literally none of the six or seven other options I tried even compared to this.

Every time I've worn makeup since I got it, I've been impressed by the way my matte foundation glides over it, looks with it, and lasts with it. You can see the texture and color in the photo above; it really does go on completely clear. And it's water- and sweat-resistant for 40 minutes! It's also oxybenzone-free, which is a common sun-protection ingredient that may not be reef-safe, and a single 1.7oz bottle lasts me a little over six months. (Here's more info on sunscreen ingredients.)

Get it from AmazonSephora or Free People for $34.

    14. Or a reef and ocean–friendly mineral sunscreen that, besides being fragrance-free, water-resistant, broad-spectrum, vitamin E–enriched, and sensitive skin–friendly, comes in a tinted version to help prevent that pesky white residue. So keep your skin safe without having to worry your sun protection will harm coral, fishies, whales, or other marine life.

bottle of california baby super sensitive SPF 30+ sunscreen on the beach
    California Baby

This is one of the sunscreens recommended by Consumer Reports in their analysis of reef-safe sunscreens. Because it turns out (sigh) that just because a sunscreen says it's reef-safe, it might not be completely reef-safe. But luckily, this sunscreen is! It's also water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, and oxybenzone-free.

Promising review: "Have used this product for eight years, and my daughter has never been sunburned even though she's at an outdoor day camp 9am-4pm!" —Betty R.

Get a six-ounce bottle (their largest size) from Amazon for $44.99 or from California Baby for $39.99 (also available in three smaller sizes; see their Amazon store or website for the full range of sizes).

Because it's a mineral sunscreen it does have a white cast, but they also make a tinted version that reviewers say works better for darker skin tones: you can get that from Amazon for $25.99 or from California Baby for $23.99

    15. And for the pool: a bottle of spray sunscreen so your kids (or you!) can hop out of the water, skip the thorough towel-dry (because it's specifically designed so it won't drip off wet skin), and quickly reapply.

The spray can of Neutrogena Wet Skin Kids Beach & Pool Broad Spectrum SPF 70+

As with all spray sunscreens, make sure to rub it in and around after you spray, because while spraying's quicker than spreading regular lotion, it still needs help covering every last inch! And technically the directions say you're supposed to wait for 15 minutes before getting back into the water.

Promising review: "I love this sunscreen for my kids. I used it all last summer. It's really easy to apply since you don't have to dry them off. No sunburns all summer thanks to this stuff. Also, it doesn't irritate their skin like some of the other sprays have done. It's now the only sunscreen I buy. Try the face sticks, they work great too." —Jessica

Get two bottles on Amazon for $15.97.

    16. A long-sleeved but lightweight UPF 50 shirt because it provides *instant* sun protection you don't have to wait to let soak in or reapply at all. It's moisture-wicking and quick-drying, so even if you sweat a little you'll stay plenty comfortable.

long-sleeved shirt with thumb loops for hands in mint color
    Bass Pro Shops

It's technically made for fishing, but you could totally use it for hiking, camping, or swimming, too! It even comes down over your hands (note those thumb loops) to help keep them protected, too.

Get it from Bass Pro Shops for $59.95 (available in women's sizes XS–XXL and in three colors).

    17. A lightweight straw hat that's lined with satin to help prevent frizz *and* breakage in natural curly hair, so you can bring your own shade everywhere you go without having to worry about what your hair will look like when you take it off.

    Grace Eleyae

It's a fairly new release from Grace Eleyae, a Black woman-founded brand that believes you shouldn't compromise hair health for style. She was inspired to create her satin-lined cap after her hair broke off following a bumpy 8-hour car ride. And since it's summer, they've branched off into more lightweight satin-lined hats!

Get them from Grace Eleyae for $92.

    18. A compact dehumidifier because in many states, summer means extra humidity and this will help prevent any mold and mildew growth in your bathroom, motor home, or other small spaces.

The dehumidifier, with an on/off switch, a vent panel that sucks in the air, and a removable bucket that collects the water

It even helps with that musty smell that eventually builds up in humid places. It's nice and small, but can de-humidify spaces up to 1200 cubic feet. And its water tank holds several days worth of water, so you don't have to constantly empty it out.

Promising review: "I recently purchased an older house that has a bit of a humidity issue in a state with a bit of a humidity issue. I have one in the bedroom, one in the living room and one in the kitchen. I could feel a difference in the air right away. I was able to increase the temperature on my air conditioner, and it even got a little chilly in the house because the humidity level had improved. They take water out of the air at an amazing rate, and I have to empty the tanks every couple of days. The size is nice too: they are small, unobtrusive, and as much as a dehumidifier can be, kind of cute." —Amazon Customer

Get it on Amazon for $42.99.

    19. And speaking of mold and mildew: an electric power washer because all your outdoor surfaces and furniture just plain get dirty over the years, and sometimes it's nice to take an afternoon to blast off all the gunk.

Not to mention extremely satisfying. It comes with five quick-connect cleaning tips so you can choose the perfect one for the task at hand — including a tip for soap, which you can use to easily wash your car. It generates up to 2030 PSI and has a two-year warranty.

Promising review: "It mastered cleaning my garage floors after a snowy and salty New England winter brilliantly. I have since found myriad other places to use it: lawn furniture, tech decking, wooden stair treads, and most recently deep cleaning a bluestone patio that has become discolored from year of oak pollen and leaves. I was impressed that it provides pinpoint accuracy (using 15 degree nozzle) and with a little care and time, was able to get great results. The spray pressure is not adjustable and the detergent bins are a little wonky (held in place with just a groove under a panel). But the motor is quiet, cuts off when not in use, and it's super easy to move around." —Mike M

Get it on Amazon for $139.

    20. A setting spray so you can ensure your makeup lasts through even the sweatiest, most humid days with just a spritz or two.

A reviewer's before: with full face of makeup and spray just applied and after: 12 hours later, all the makeup but her lipstick still intact

Promising review: "Fantastic matte finish that holds up REALLY well to sweat (live near the gulf, humidity is always 100+% lol) and so inexpensive. Better than Mac and Urban Decay. Now while I love my Mac makeup, certain brands make certain products better. I never found such an awesome make up setter as this one — it withstood a 9-hour shift in direct sunlight at 90 degrees with 100% humidity. I sweat more that day than I use water in a shower lol, and it held up like a champ, no lines. Great stuff. ❤️" —TMC

Get it from Amazon for $8.47.

    21. And a hair serum infused with argan oil, vitamin E, and aloe vera because those essential ingredients make it easy for your heat-straightened hair to hold its own against humidity's demands.,

Promising review: "I found this product through a BuzzFeed article for those with frizzy hair and THIS PRODUCT DID NOT DISAPPOINT, PEOPLE! I put this serum through the ringer; I got this to stand up to Bay Area fog AND the nasty, humid heat wave we got a couple weeks ago. No frizz, no extra curls. Nothing! On top of that, it made my hair super glossy. I'm very impressed. Heads up though, a little goes a long way." —Amazon Customer

Get it on Amazon for $11.99.

    22. A single blade, all-metal rose gold safety razor that — if you choose to shave — helps eliminate ingrown hair and razor burn for good, because it removes the hair right at the skin's surface level and doesn't include any other blades that just end up irritating your skin.

    Oui The People

Basically, on a five-blade razor, the first blade removes the hair, and the other four blades cut the hair super low so they end up below the surface of your skin — part of the cause of ingrowns. And all that extra scraping against your skin can irritate the hair follicle, to, which causes razor burn. This razor from Black-owned brand Oui The People removes the hair right at the surface of your skin, skipping all of that! (Oh, *and* it's plastic-free!)

Promising review: "NEVER in my life have I shaved without experiencing razor burn, ingrown hairs, and irritation....until i switched to this safety razor. It’s SUPER easy to get the hang of. My first shave I didn't nick myself once! It's honestly unbelievable, and my skin feels amazing." —Ameia Smith

Get it from Oui The People for $75.

    23. A blister prevention balm — breaking in a new pair of flats or sandals is never fun, but this might help make it a little less painful. And if your shoes STILL blister even after you've done a bunch of walking in them, it will continue to have your back. Or, well, your heels, arch, and toes.

A hand holding the mini deodorant stick sized and shaped balm
    Body Glide /

Promising review: "I love this product! I have a pair of espadrille sandals and one of the straps was literally cutting into my foot when I first wore them. After a bandage healed it, I applied the Foot Glide liberally to all the edges where the straps contacted my foot. No more pain, no rubbing or blisters, and not even any redness. It doesn't make your foot slippery or wet, but it feels like a waxy version of a lotion that feels smooth where previously there was chafing. Don't try it over an open sore as it is not meant for that. Also, the shoe has to closely fit your foot appropriately with just a rubbing or chafing problem. If the shoe is way too small, no amount of product will solve that; instead, invest in a good pair of shoe stretchers and some stretching spray. After that, the Foot Glide should work fine if you still need it." —Amy H

Get it on Amazon for $8.

    24. A clarifying shampoo ideal for removing that swimming pool chlorine buildup causing your blonde hair to turn green, or your hair of any color to just constantly smell like the chemical.

Hand holding the large bottle of Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three
    Paul Mitchell /

Promising review: "Great for use after swimming. My daughter’s hair turned very green from the chlorine, and it was still green after washing it twice with this. So we washed her hair with ketchup, and then washed the ketchup out with this again and it worked. We maintained washing her hair with this through the summer and it didn’t turn green again. It definitely strips the hair, so I always condition twice after using this." —I'll take 5

Get it on Amazon for $12.50.

    25. A pair of supportive workout shorts with a) flat-lock seams that won't chafe, b) moisture-wicking quick-dry fabric to help with that summer s-w-e-a-t, and c) POCKETS so whether you wear 'em under something or just by themselves, you have a handy spot to stash stuff.

    SuperFit Hero

The brand also has a v. cool Body Positive Fitness Finder on their site, if you're looking for new workout options!

Promising review: "These are the best shorts! They don't roll down, they hold you in without feeling restrictive, and no chafing at all." —Rebecca S.

Get it from SuperFit Hero for $68 (available in sizes L–7XL, and in six colors here).

    26. A mini personal fan to help stave off sweat, if the AC doesn't quite do enough for your bathroom vanity or desk nook.

Promising reviews: "This fan has been great so far! It's compact and fits in my work space perfectly. It blows just enough air, considering its size. Level one feels like a gentle breeze and level two is similar to a low setting of a standard fan. It isn't very wide, so the air is concentrated to wherever you point it. It doesn't oscillate on its own, but you can easily turn it if you need to blow air in another direction. I really like the versatility in that in addition to turning horizontally, it can be adjusted vertically to straight up if you wanted. This allows you to place it in different places because the air will still blow on you." —Christy19

Get it on Amazon for $17.99+ (six colors available).

    27. A durable pet cooling mat filled with non-toxic gel — it stays five to ten degrees cooler than the surrounding temp, so your furbaby can quickly chill out even if they've been running laps in the heat.

A reviewer's small dog asleep on the mat

It wipes clean, and doesn't require any refrigeration or anything.

Promising review: "I have a pug and a toy fox terrier/chihuahua mix and they absolutely love this thing. I just leave it sitting on the living room floor and they gravitate towards it when they need to cool down (and sometimes fight over it). Both fit simultaneously if they are in the mood for sharing the space. The mat is tough too — I don't think the dog nails can penetrate it." —E Marsh

Get it on Amazon for $35.99+ (available in four colors).

    28. And a paw washer so they can enjoy running through the mud after a cozy summer rain without causing your floors or furniture any undue mess and distress when they come bounding up to the back door.

Model holds the pint-glass size washer, which has interior silicone brushes, while a dog dips their paw into it

Promising review: "Best. Thing. Ever. This product works like a charm. It gets the sand from between their pads, and is gentle enough that even my most stubborn pup tolerates it! I have a terrier/schnauzer that likes to dig, a mini golden doodle that is prissy about her paws and a standard labradoodle puppy that is still very fuzzy. We have a farm where it is extremely sandy and we stay in a travel trailer. The amount of sand they were tracking in to the camper was ridiculous. It takes me three minutes to clean and dry off all of their paws. Seriously the best purchase I have made!" —Rachel

Get it on Amazon for $14.28+ (available in small, medium, and large sizes; with or without a lid; and in six colors).

    29. Some foot antiperspirant lotion specifically formulated to prevent excess sweating, whatever it is that triggers yours. Controlling the sweat can also help stop your feet and shoes from getting too smelly!

The bottle of Carpe Antiperspriant lotion for feet
    Carpe /

Promising reviews: "This is the only thing that has ever worked for my foot perspiration. It is wonderful, my feet are DRY when I take my boots off when I come in from work. If you think you've tried everything and don't think this will will!" —USMC/MCSO

"This product is as advertised: it stops your feet from sweating. It doesn't take much product, a very small amount, rub into clean, dry feet vigorously, wait 10 minutes, then put on socks and shoes. I used it at night as well as in the morning, and it worked great. I can even skip a day. Love this stuff." —Alison Widmer

Get two bottles from Amazon for $24.95.

    30. And a pair of washable flats perfect if you're tired of throwing out shoes that get unbearably stinky after just a few months of wear, because that's just what happens when you wear shoes without socks.

    Rothy's / Instagram, Sheera Frenkel / BuzzFeed

I've owned and loved my one pair of these since 2017, when a few of us first reviewed 'em. They are by far the pair of shoes I wear most often (my Birks come in close second), precisely because — besides being incredibly comfortable, especially once they form to your feet — they're so easy to wash the moment they start to smell. I usually gently hand wash 'em with a scrub brush in my tub because I live in NYC and don't have access to one in my apartment, but I've washed them in a machine several times back at my parents place and they hold up really well. TBH mine STILL look as new as they did when I first got them, and FWIW I find I can wear mine for a couple of weeks before they get stinky (unlike the reviewer below). I'm wearing them right now! Oh, and it's just a perk that they're made from recycled water bottles.

Promising review: "I love these shoes, and will slowly build up a wardrobe of them. Right now I have black and navy. The black are more than a year old (have been washed more times than I can remember) and are still in great shape, so I feel like they are worth the investment. They are incredibly comfortable. Only real downside: they do make your feet stink after a few (5–10) wears, but then it's just time to throw them in the wash and all is well. Mainly an issue when I am wearing them day after day in the summer." —Karen W.

Get them from Rothy's for $125+ (twelve styles including sneakers and sandals available in many patterns; sizes 5–12, including half sizes).

    31. A double wall vacuum insulated–water bottle because despite your best efforts to put up your car's sunshade and park in the shadiest spot in the lot, when temps reach their peak your water needs a little something extra to actually stay cold.

Model holding the 21 oz bottle, which is tall and narrow

They make 'em in several sizes, but this one will actually fit in your car's cupholders. And its lid has a straw cap you can pull open and push to close, to minimize the risk of spills!

Promising review: "Works well! This is a great water bottle. I tested it by filling it with chilled water and taking it to the beach. It was a very hot day and the sun was beating down and the sand was hot. I had the bottle out the whole time on the sand for several hours and the water remained very cold. I've also kept it in a hot car running errands on a 90+ degree day and again, the water stays refreshingly cold. I bought a second Hydro Flask for my desk at work and the colors are so pretty. I bought one in mint and another in raspberry... would also make a great gift... Highly recommend!" —AB

A model slices watermelon with the green-handled, red-bladed serrated knife
    Kuhn Rikon

Yes, it is basically an ordinary serrated knife that looks like a watermelon, BUT if your regular serrated knife has seen better days, why not have some fun?

Promising reviews: "It is very well made. It performs as advertised. I was able to cut a watermelon in half the time it used to take me because the large sized knife, the super sharp knife blade, and the holes on the knife help the watermelon to fall away from the knife as you cut it, so I didn't have to pause and separate the watermelon from the knife with every cut. I love it. I should have gotten it a lot sooner. It's a must for all those who love watermelon. And it works great on pineapples and other fruits as well. It's not a one function type of tool. Fabulous!" —spynovel_junkie

Get it on Amazon for $29.95 — or if that's sold out, find a similar knife (by a different brand) for $11.59.

The other magic part of air fryers? You don't have to add any oil to get crisp, delicious-tasting "fried" food. It works with frozen foods or with things like fish, chicken, burgers, and even fresh veggies! And yes, the parts that get dirty are dishwasher-safe.

Promising reviews: "This is one of the best things I have purchased for myself this year! Works really well with frozen foods such as chicken nuggets and fries, makes super crispy Brussels sprouts and keeps chicken breast super moist and tender." —Jen

"This air fryer is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, I pretty much use it everyday as opposed to the oven. It was super easy to understand, and surprisingly easy to clean as opposed to a cookie sheet. It’s been amazing at everything I’ve made so far, it does cook fast so I watch it despite the suggested settings." —adriannamg

Promising review: "I've had oily skin my whole life and have used countless types of oils blotting sheets because they're life savers. THESE ARE AMAZING. Great deal, big sheets, and they pull out one at a time so easily. Give these a try — completely worth it. They work well and are easy to use. No negative things to say at all." —Kelsey
