Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

Unless otherwise specified, all sizes in this post are listed in women's.

    1. A popular pair of standard compressive high-waist bike shorts with deep pockets that come in so many colors and lengths that you'll probs be coming back for a second and third pair after buying your first.

    amazon.com

These have over 4,000 5-star reviews on Amazon, with reviewers mentioning the convenience of the pockets and how "squat-proof" they are. And full disclosure, I bought a pair of these a few weeks ago for at-home workouts and runs around my neighborhood, and I love them so much that I may never wear real pants again. They're just the right balance between compressive and comfy, and wash really well.

Promising review: "Had already bought the Baleaf capris with the phone pocket and wanted to try the shorts. Can't believe how many manufacturers are ignoring active women who need a spot for their phones! So happy to discover Baleaf. The pocket fit my iPhone 7 in its case and held it firmly against my upper outer thigh so there wasn't bouncing around and I didn't get chafed. There was also a hidden pocket at the waist that could actually hold a key with fob, not just a single key. Again, HOORAY and why don't more makers of activewear think of this? It felt supportive and snug but nothing was tight. I am a runner and appreciate that the legs of the shorts didn't ride up as I ran. Fabric was a good thickness, not at all see-through. I am a fan!" —Carla Jean

Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in 42 styles and sizes XS-5XL).

    2. A pair of metallic biker shorts built for medium- and high-impact workouts, with a subtle shine to help you kick it into high gear.

A model in deep red metallic bike shorts that fall mid-thigh
    Amazon

Promising review: "So soft and comfy! They aren't tight at the bottom like some shorts. Sleek color and easy to move in." —Veronica

Get it from Amazon for 10.97+ (available in sizes S-3X and three colors).

    3. A pair of padded cycling shorts with a Coolmax foam layer to help wick moisture and keep you feeling fresh and dry.

    Amazon

Promising review: "I really liked these shorts, they are very padded and comfortable and the material feels high quality. The padding does feel very bulky but I wanted this for longer rides so it was exactly what I was looking for! I will say if you are looking for a more versatile bike short that you can where for running/triathlon as well I wouldn't recommend because they do feel a little awkward to walk in." —Tracey Zarkis

Get it from Amazon for $22.99 (available in unisex sizes M-XL and two styles).

    4. A pair of mini biker shorts designed for yoga, but also perfect for wearing under dresses and skirts in the heat.

A model in pastel blue bike shorts that fall on the upper thigh
    Amazon

Promising review: "My new favorite shorts! I purchased these to wear under dresses in the summer while playing with my kids but will probably wear these out to the gym for hot yoga and such. I bought three pairs of these, wish they had a lighter color to wear under more sheer dresses though. The material is on the thicker side comparable to a Lululemon type of short." —ecurranrx

Get it from Amazon for $13.02+ (available in sizes XS-XXL and seven colors).

    5. A pair of bright compressive bike shorts that'll put a pep in your step every time you slide them on.

A model in orange high waist bike shorts that fall mid-thigh
    Athleta

Promising review: "These shorts are the perfect length — not too short and fit like a glove; very very comfortable! I'd say these are absolutely true to size and suggest following the measurements like I did before ordering; the red is more like a HOT CORAL which I like even better and the blue is beautiful shade of blue with some grey undertone. I definitely recommend for exercise and just being comfortable at home or outside in nice weather." —JoJo

Get it from Athleta for $49 (available in sizes 1X-3X and two colors).

    6. A pair of heather gray bike shorts designed for all day comfort, with a sneaky pocket at the waistband.

    Amazon

Promising review: "I love wearing shorts like these under dresses/skirts and just in general as it’s getting warmer. They are incredibly comfortable and fit well, I honestly almost forget I’m wearing them. It’s great! And most importantly there’s a small pocket on the left side where you can keep a phone/key/money. It’s not big, but it’s something!" —Faye Graves

Get it from Amazon for $19 (available in M-2X and nine colors).

    7. A pair of seamless ribbed bike shorts so easy to shimmy into that you'll be tempted to cancel all the other bottoms in your wardrobe.

    Free People

Oops, bought these too, as I am basically just a sentient pair of bike shorts now. I got these in pink (above) and the fabric is thin and compressive, but not at all see-through, and very cozy to wear around the house or on socially-distanced neighborhood walks. I wouldn't recommend these for anything high-impact in public just based on the construction of them, but def good for at-home workouts or low-impact anything.

Promising review: "These shorts are amazing! It cinches my waist perfectly, but it doesn’t squeeze. There are so many matching bramis, bralettes, and camis for these shorts, the shorts have become an everyday quarantine staple! Please come out with new colors! I will buy up every bright color you make!" —diamondberries

Get it from Free People for $20 (available in sizes XS-L and seven colors).

A model in black bike shorts that fall above the knee
    Old Navy

Promising review: "I love these shorts! This is my first time branching out and trying shorts like these. Great for my walk/jogs. They don’t ride up and the waist doesn’t roll down. I did size down one size so it would fit more snugly and I’m glad I did! I’ll be buying more!!" —Ashley

Get it from Old Navy for $22.99 (available in sizes 1X-4X).

    9. A dependable pair of Under Armour bike shorts designed with a HeatGear fabric that wicks sweat and keeps your shorts odor-free.

A model in high waist black bike shorts that fall mid thigh
    Amazon

Promising review: "Bought for strength training. My thighs are pretty big and shorter shorts always end up riding up. Not these! Wore them to deadlift and cardio. They pass the squat test, too. Not sheer under stretch but not too heavy fabric. None to minimal riding up and very comfortable. I like the wider waistband. It doesn't roll down or bunch up. Would buy again at this point." —Opal Jingle

Get it from Amazon for $21.67+ (available in sizes XS-XXL and two colors).

A model in olive green biker shorts with mesh pockets on the sides
    Aerie

*sighs deeply* I know I keep confessing throughout this post that I own the bike shorts in question, but in my defense, they are the only thing worth buying this summer. So yes, I own these in pink. They're not only cute, but SO sturdy and durable for intense workouts, including running. I was worried too that the seams might pinch at the legs, but they don't, and they stay in place very well when you're moving. That said, if you're between sizes, I'd definitely go a size up! (I def did.)

Promising review: "I first purchased these in black and then went back and bought the tan color also because I loved them so much! Strong material, not see-through, perfect for workouts or just lounging around. Compared to the top fitness-brand bike shorts out there, these are the same great quality but for a much more reasonable price! I'm usually in-between XS/S and am glad I ended up going with the small — so if you're hesitant I'd size up." —Allie

    Amazon

Promising review: "After three rides, about seven hours total wearing them, I really like them. The fit is good and the gripper elastic around the legs works. They stayed quite comfortable in 82 degrees F and 76% humidity. The gel cushioning is in smaller sections, rather than 1 big section on each side that I'm used to, and I think that works a bit better. Of course, no idea yet how durable they will be, but they feel solid, not flimsy. Note there is not a drawstring at the waist, just elastic (not gripper) — I use suspenders, so can't say if the elastic would be enough on its own." —Will Strang
